The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued several alerts for Monday, 7 July 2025. A Yellow Level 2 warning is active for damaging waves between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay. These waves may cause navigation difficulties at sea in the morning. Additionally, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves is in place between Plettenberg Bay and Kei Mouth. Small vessels risk taking on water, capsizing, and dragging anchors in these areas. No fire danger warnings or weather advisories are currently in effect.
Provincial Weather Overview
Gauteng and Highveld:
Gauteng anticipates a cold start to the day. Temperatures could drop to around 4°C in the early morning. However, the day may warm to a comfortable 17°C with mostly clear skies. Light and variable winds are creating dry conditions. No rain is expected for Gauteng today. Residents in southern Gauteng might experience sleet and isolated showers.
Western Cape:
The Western Cape is facing harsh winter conditions. Persistent showers are expected in coastal areas, including Cape Town. Heavy rain and potential flooding warnings were previously issued for parts of the province. Snow is also anticipated on higher mountain passes like the Cederberg and Hex River Mountains, which could lead to road closures. Very cold conditions are spreading inland into the Free State. Freezing temperatures, as low as -2°C in places like Frankfort, are possible over the central interior and eastern Free State. Disruptive rainfall warnings were previously issued for the north-eastern parts of the province.
Northern Cape:
Rain and showers are expected over the western and southern parts of the country, impacting the Northern Cape. Freezing conditions are also noted, with temperatures reaching -1°C in Kimberley.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Showers are expected to reach the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
North West:
Disruptive rainfall warnings were previously issued for parts of the North West province.
Mpumalanga:
Mostly clear and cold conditions are forecast. No significant rainfall or disruptive weather warnings are currently active. Temperatures remain low in the early mornings but rise moderately during the day.
Limpopo:
Clear and cold weather expected with no rain or disruptive weather warnings. Early morning temperatures are low, but daytime conditions will be dry and sunny.
