Volkswagen is expanding its next-generation Transporter range in South Africa with five new models, adding more versatility to an already comprehensive lineup.
The passenger-focused Kombi variants were first launched in September, followed by the introduction of an entry-level commercial Panel Van with a manual gearbox in early October. Now, sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists have confirmed that Volkswagen plans to roll out additional models, including an automatic Panel Van and the new Crew Bus units.
With these additions, the Transporter family now includes 11 models, spanning short-wheelbase (SWB) and long-wheelbase (LWB) options, with prices starting from R770,000.
Specifications & Configurations
The two Panel Van models are offered exclusively in LWB form, measuring 5,450mm in length with a 3,500mm wheelbase. The Crew Bus and Kombi, on the other hand, have SWB options measuring 5,050mm in length with a 3,100mm wheelbase.
For those needing maximum cargo capacity, the Panel Van is ideal, replacing the rear seats with a loading bay capable of holding three Euro pallets. Payload capacity reaches 1.3 tonnes, while the van can tow up to 2.8 tonnes.
Crew Bus units provide a balance between passenger and cargo space. Seating can be adapted or removed entirely for cargo. The SWB Crew Bus accommodates five passengers, while the LWB version seats up to eight, the same as the Kombi.
