The Gauteng Tourism Authority is launching the Gauteng Marketplace inside the official Visit Gauteng App on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, giving local businesses a new way to sell products to residents and visitors. The marketplace forms part of an expanded app that allows users to discover attractions, accommodation, restaurants, events, specials and experiences across Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng and the West Rand. Local businesses can register as vendors for free, while shoppers can buy products and arrange delivery through the platform.

    What Is the Gauteng Marketplace?

The Gauteng Marketplace is a digital shopping section built into the Visit Gauteng App. It allows qualifying Gauteng businesses to list and sell products alongside tourism attractions, events, experiences and specials.

The marketplace gives local brands and creators an additional digital space to sell products to residents and visitors exploring Gauteng.

Products available through the marketplace can include fashion, art, accessories, sneakers and other items offered by participating local businesses and creators.

The platform is operated by the Gauteng Tourism Authority and forms part of the broader Visit Gauteng digital tourism ecosystem.

How Gauteng Businesses Can Register as Vendors

Local businesses and creators interested in selling through the Gauteng Marketplace can apply to become vendors.

Businesses can register through the Visit Gauteng App or use the Gauteng Marketplace Vendor Portal.

Inside the app, prospective vendors can navigate to the More section and select Become a Vendor.

They can then sign in using Apple, Google, Facebook or email before completing the required business application and submitting information about the products or services they want to list.

    The registration process includes:

    1. Download or open the Visit Gauteng App.
    2. Navigate to the More section.
    3. Select Become a Vendor.
    4. Sign in using Apple, Google, Facebook or email.
    5. Complete the business application.
    6. Submit the required information about the business and its offerings.

Businesses should ensure that the information submitted during registration is accurate before completing their application.

What Vendors Pay to Sell on the Marketplace

There is no upfront subscription fee for businesses to list on the Gauteng Marketplace.

Instead, a standard commission of 11.5% applies when a successful sale is completed.

The platform also incorporates order fulfilment, logistics and delivery, reducing the need for individual vendors to arrange every stage of the delivery process independently.

For participating businesses, the marketplace provides another digital sales channel through a platform already focused on Gauteng tourism, lifestyle and experiences.

The marketplace is intended to connect local businesses with residents and visitors who are already using the Visit Gauteng platform to explore the province.

How Shoppers Can Use the Visit Gauteng App

Residents and visitors can download the Visit Gauteng App and create a personal profile to access its different features.

Users can sign in and begin exploring places to visit, events, accommodation, restaurants, experiences and products available through the marketplace.

The platform covers all five Gauteng regions, including Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng and the West Rand.

The marketplace means users can now shop for products from participating Gauteng businesses while using the same platform to plan activities and explore destinations.

Users can also access Visit Gauteng content through the tourism platform online.

New Features Available on the Visit Gauteng App

The marketplace is one of several features available through the expanded Visit Gauteng App.

The new marketplace allows users to browse and purchase products from participating Gauteng businesses and creators.

    Reels

The Reels section features short videos showcasing destinations, attractions and experiences across Gauteng.

    Sporting GP

Sporting GP focuses on sporting events, fitness activities and major sports venues across the province.

    Gauteng Loves Kids

Users can explore restaurants, dining destinations, accommodation and other tourism offerings.

    Events and News

The app provides information about events taking place across Gauteng as well as tourism news, travel information and guides.

More Ways to Explore Gauteng Through the App

The Visit Gauteng platform also organises tourism information into categories that make it easier for users to search according to what they want to do.

    These include:

    • Events
    • Specials
    • Heritage
    • Experiences
    • Food and Wine
    • Accommodation

Users can browse these categories when planning a day out, weekend trip or longer stay in Gauteng.

The platform also features individual tourism listings with information about attractions, accommodation, events and experiences.

Additional tools include trip planning, maps and directions, transport information, weather information, safety information, heritage experiences and information about sporting venues.

What This Means for Gauteng Residents

For Gauteng residents, the expanded Visit Gauteng App combines tourism discovery, local shopping and travel planning within one platform.

Someone planning a weekend in another part of the province can use the app to search for accommodation, restaurants, attractions and events before adding activities to their plans.

Families can use Gauteng Loves Kids to identify activities suitable for children, while sports enthusiasts can explore Sporting GP for sporting events and venues.

The marketplace also gives residents another way to discover products offered by businesses operating within Gauteng.

For entrepreneurs, the marketplace creates an additional sales channel without an upfront subscription fee. Businesses should, however, account for the 11.5% commission charged on successful sales.
