Sports fans travelling to Gauteng’s biggest football and rugby fixtures over the coming weeks will have several public transport options available through Gautrain and PRASA. The transport services include special train and shuttle connections for the Kaizer Chiefs versus Mamelodi Sundowns Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium, as well as upcoming Vodacom Bulls and Springboks fixtures.

The services are aimed at supporters travelling to stadiums in Johannesburg and Pretoria while helping to reduce traffic congestion and parking demand around major sporting venues. According to Gautrain, dedicated shuttle buses, train connections and special match packages will operate on selected match days.

Whether you are heading to FNB Stadium, Loftus Versfeld or Ellis Park, planning your journey before match day can help avoid delays.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Mamelodi Sundowns Match Transport

One of Gauteng’s biggest football fixtures takes place on Saturday, 15 August 2026, when Kaizer Chiefs host Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium.

Kick off is scheduled for 3pm.

To assist supporters travelling to the stadium, Gautrain has introduced a dedicated transport option.

    Supporters can:

    • Take the Gautrain to Park Station.
    • Board a Gautrain shuttle bus from Park Station to FNB Stadium.
    • Return to Park Station after the match using the same shuttle service.

Buses between Park Station and FNB Stadium will operate:

    • From 11am until 3pm before kick off.
    • Again after the match until 7pm.
    • The final shuttle bus will depart FNB Stadium at 7pm.

The shuttle service is available only to supporters with valid match tickets.

Gautrain Offers R300 Match Day Package

Supporters attending the Chiefs and Sundowns fixture can also purchase a R300 Gautrain Match Day Package.

    The package includes:

    • Match ticket.
    • Travel.
    • Shuttle bus between Park Station and FNB Stadium.
    • Parking at designated stations.

Parking at Gautrain stations costs R1 when passengers use the train.

Those driving directly to Park Station should note that parking there costs R135.

Standard fares apply to passengers not purchasing the package.

Rugby Fans Also Have Dedicated Transport Options

Gautrain has also confirmed transport arrangements for several major rugby fixtures taking place across Gauteng.

    These include:

    • Vodacom Bulls vs All Blacks at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
    • Springboks vs All Blacks at Ellis Park Stadium.
    • Lions vs All Blacks at Ellis Park Stadium.
    • Springboks vs All Blacks at FNB Stadium.

Each fixture has dedicated train connections designed to move large numbers of supporters safely and efficiently.

    Getting to Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Supporters attending matches at Loftus Versfeld should:

    • Take the train to Pretoria Station.
    • Transfer onto a PRASA train to Loftus Versfeld.

For the Vodacom Bulls versus All Blacks fixture on Saturday, 15 August, PRASA trains will operate between 2.30pm and 10.30pm.

The final service departs Pretoria Station at 11pm.

The same route can also be used for other qualifying fixtures held at Loftus Versfeld.

    Ellis Park Match Day Transport

For Springbok and Lions fixtures at Ellis Park Stadium, supporters should:

    • Travel to Park Station.
    • Transfer to a PRASA train serving Ellis Park.

    According to Gautrain:

For the Springboks versus All Blacks match on Saturday, 22 August, PRASA trains will operate between 12.30pm and 8.30pm.

    Supporters should:

    • Take the train to Park Station.

Why Public Transport Makes Sense on Match Day

Major sporting events regularly attract tens of thousands of supporters, placing pressure on surrounding roads and parking facilities.

Using the train and connecting shuttle or PRASA services can help supporters avoid traffic delays while providing direct access to stadium precincts.

For football fans travelling to FNB Stadium, the dedicated shuttle service removes the need to navigate heavy match day traffic around Nasrec.

Similarly, Pretoria and Ellis Park supporters can make use of integrated rail services instead of searching for limited parking near the venues.

    Tips Before You Travel

Supporters are encouraged to plan ahead before travelling.

    Before leaving home:

    • Confirm your match ticket.
    • Check operating times.
    • Arrive at stations early.
    • Purchase or load your card if required.
    • Allow extra travel time before kick off.
    • Follow stadium security regulations regarding prohibited items.

Supporters should also note that some services operate only for ticket holders.

What This Means for Gauteng Residents

The additional Gautrain transport services provide a practical option for residents attending some of Gauteng’s biggest sporting events over the coming weeks.

By combining Gautrain, PRASA rail services and dedicated shuttle buses, supporters have more reliable ways to reach stadiums while reducing congestion around popular venues.

The services also support safer travel after evening fixtures and encourage greater use of public transport for major events across the province.
