Johannesburg will reach a high of 22°C and a low of 13°C on Monday, 27 April 2026, under clear skies, while the country experiences a sharp weather divide with the northern interior provinces enjoying warm, dry conditions and the coastal regions recording scattered light rain and cooler temperatures. The national average temperature stands at 18°C, with Mpumalanga recording the hottest conditions at 32°C and several provinces affected by autumn showers.

What This Means for Your Day

Northern and central provinces will have ideal outdoor conditions with sunny skies and moderate warmth, though evening temperatures will drop quickly once the sun sets. Coastal residents in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape and Western Cape should keep rain gear accessible, as intermittent showers and strong winds are expected throughout the day. Drivers in affected areas should exercise caution on wet roads, particularly during the morning and late afternoon.

    Gauteng

Johannesburg will see clear skies with temperatures ranging from 13°C to 22°C. Westerly winds of 16 km/h will provide a crisp feel to the day. Pretoria and the East Rand can expect similar conditions, with full sunshine and low humidity making it comfortable for outdoor activities. Evening temperatures will require a light jacket.

    Limpopo

Polokwane will enjoy clear skies with temperatures climbing from 16°C to 26°C. Light south-westerly winds of 10 km/h will keep conditions pleasant throughout the province. The warm afternoon temperatures make this one of the more comfortable days in the region, with no rainfall expected.

    Mpumalanga

Mbombela will experience the country’s warmest weather, with temperatures rising from 20°C to 32°C under clear skies. West-south-westerly winds remain gentle at 7 km/h, and humidity levels of 45% will keep the heat manageable. Residents in the Lowveld should stay hydrated and limit direct sun exposure during midday hours.

    North West

Mahikeng will see clear conditions with temperatures between 15°C and 26°C. West-north-westerly winds will be more noticeable at 22 km/h, creating a breezier feel across the province. The warm afternoon will contrast with a cooler evening, typical of autumn weather patterns in the interior.

    Free State

Bloemfontein will experience broken cloud cover with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 17°C. West-south-westerly winds of 19 km/h will add a chill factor to the already cool conditions. The province sits in a transitional zone between the clear north and the wet south, with cloudiness expected but no significant rainfall.

    KwaZulu-Natal

Durban will see light rain throughout the day, with temperatures between 21°C and 25°C. South-south-westerly winds will be strong at 42 km/h, particularly along the coast. The Midlands and northern parts of the province may see clearer spells, but coastal areas should prepare for wet conditions and choppy seas. Humidity remains elevated at 66%.

    Northern Cape

Kimberley will have few clouds with temperatures from 11°C to 17°C. South-westerly winds of 22 km/h will make conditions feel cooler than the actual temperature suggests. The western parts of the province will remain dry, though the cooler pattern reflects the approaching winter season.

    Eastern Cape

Gqeberha will receive light rain with temperatures between 14°C and 17°C. West-south-westerly winds will be strong at 45 km/h, making this one of the windiest spots in the country today. Coastal areas from Port Alfred to East London should expect similar conditions, with outdoor plans requiring flexibility. The rain will be intermittent rather than sustained.

    Western Cape

Cape Town will see light rain with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 16°C. South-south-westerly winds of 19 km/h will accompany the showers, which are expected to be light but persistent. The Winelands and West Coast will experience similar conditions, while the Garden Route may see slightly warmer temperatures. Residents should dress in layers and keep waterproof clothing on hand.

    Weekend Outlook

The week ahead will see gradual cooling across most provinces, with Johannesburg dropping to between 12°C and 20°C by Wednesday. Clear skies will dominate the northern interior until Thursday, when cloud cover increases. Friday, 1 May, will bring light rain to Gauteng and surrounding provinces, marking a shift toward wetter autumn weather. Coastal areas will see intermittent rain continuing into midweek before conditions stabilise. The weekend is expected to remain cool with scattered cloud cover nationally.

    Weather Tips for Today

    • Apply sunscreen if spending extended time outdoors in Mpumalanga, Limpopo or North West
    • Carry an umbrella or waterproof jacket in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape
    • Reduce speed and increase following distance on wet roads, especially in Gqeberha and Durban
    • Dress in layers across Gauteng and Free State, as morning and evening temperatures differ significantly
    • Secure outdoor furniture and equipment in coastal provinces due to strong wind gusts
    • Check school and sports schedules in rain-affected areas for possible delays or cancellations
