24 South African Wine Brands Head to Johannesburg

The exhibitor lineup reflects different parts of South Africa’s wine industry.

Some businesses operate established wine estates, while others have developed independent labels, distribution businesses or partnerships with winemakers and vineyards in established wine producing regions.

Here are the 24 brands visitors can expect to encounter at the Johannesburg expo.

    1. Yethu Wines

Yethu Wines is a Gauteng based wine brand and distributor offering a selection of South African red and white wines.

Its portfolio includes Red Blend, Syrah, White Blend, Pinotage and Blaq de Noir, as well as wines under its Makoti label.

Its combination of wine branding and distribution means the business operates across more than one part of the wine value chain, connecting South African wines with consumers and potential markets.

    2. M’Hudi Boutique Family Wines

M’Hudi Boutique Family Wines is a Stellenbosch based family wine estate owned by the Rangaka family and recognised as one of South Africa’s pioneering Black owned wine estate businesses.

Its range includes Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Foro’s Legacy Pinotage and Shiraz.

The estate combines wine production with a family business story that has developed both local and international recognition.

    3. St4U Wines

Limpopo based St4U Wines brings another province into the exhibitor lineup.

Its portfolio includes Chenin Blanc, Matseko Red Blend, Ngoka Red Blend and Cap Classique.

The business is developing its presence in local and international markets, demonstrating how wine brands can emerge from provinces outside South Africa’s traditional vineyard regions.

    4. Zulu Girl Wines

Zulu Girl Wines was founded by lifelong friends Pam Biyela and Sandy MaGumede.

The brand draws on Zulu heritage and African storytelling, with a collection comprising Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé and Merlot.

Its presence adds another cultural and entrepreneurial dimension to the range of South African brands represented at the expo.

From Gauteng Brands to Established Wine Regions

Several exhibitors demonstrate how South Africa’s wine industry extends beyond the location of vineyards.

Entrepreneurs can develop brands, distribution networks and consumer markets from Gauteng and other provinces while working with growers and winemakers in established producing regions.

    5. Amile Wines

Amile Wines is a Gauteng based wine and lifestyle brand with a broad portfolio spanning several wine styles.

Its range includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Coffee Pinotage, Merlot, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Sweet Rosé, Sparkling Rosé and Brut Sparkling Wine.

    6. Zoetendal Vineyards

Zoetendal Vineyards is situated in the Overberg near the southern tip of Africa.

Its wines include Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, a red blend and Cap Classique.

The vineyard’s location in the Agulhas Plain gives visitors an opportunity to discover wines originating from a distinctive cool climate wine producing area.

    7. Bombas Wines

Bombas Wines, led by Sanet Bombas, offers a range that includes Cap Classique Brut, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Rosé.

The brand forms part of the group of independent wine businesses bringing smaller portfolios to the Johannesburg event.

    8. Zoleka Wines

Zoleka Wines was founded by entrepreneur Zoleka Tengimfene, who is from Langa in Cape Town.

Its portfolio includes a Cape Blend, Red Blend and MCC.

The business combines South African wine with African cultural influences and a personal entrepreneurship story.

Independent Wine Brands Expand Consumer Choice

A significant part of the exhibitor lineup consists of independently developed South African labels.

Their portfolios range from focused collections of a few wines to broader selections covering several varietals and sparkling options.

    9. Nanola Wines

Nanola Wines is a Black woman owned wine business founded by Silindile Zuma.

Its range includes Red Blend, Rosé, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, MCC Brut and MCC Brut Rosé.

Lali Wines has a direct Gauteng connection through founder Lali Seane, who is from Ga Rankuwa.

Established in 2021, the boutique brand produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Blend, Shiraz, Merlot and MCC.

Its participation highlights how Gauteng entrepreneurs can establish wine brands while operating outside the country’s main grape growing regions.

Different Routes Into South Africa’s Wine Industry

Not every exhibitor follows the traditional model of owning or operating a vineyard.

The lineup includes businesses working in distribution and wine experiences alongside independent labels and producers.

    13. Toasted Barrels

Gauteng based Toasted Barrels works with selected boutique wineries to connect their wines with consumers through distribution, wine education and curated experiences.

Its winery partnerships include Roodekrantz Winery, Karibib Wines and Thamnus Wines.

The model helps smaller producers reach consumers and markets beyond their immediate wine producing regions.

    14. Amari Wines

Amari Wines is a Black owned South African Cap Classique brand co founded by Siya Maphalala, Luyanda Maphalala, Xolani Mancotywa and Sazi Ngcobo.

Its offering centres on Amari Lush Méthode Cap Classique, a demi sec made with Chardonnay.

The brand launched its first sparkling wine during the Covid period and marks five years in the market in 2026.

    15. Lavo Wines

Founded by Lerato Pretorius, Lavo Wines brings the Northern Cape into the exhibitor mix.

Its wines originate from the Green Kalahari region around Upington and include Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Brut and Pinotage.

The brand also offers premium Cabernet Sauvignon, expanding its range across red, white and sparkling styles.

    16. Siwela Wines

Siwela Wines was founded in 2018 by biotechnologist turned winemaker Siwela Sweetness Masoga.

Its portfolio includes Red Blend, Sweet Red, Hanepot, Pinotage Rosé, sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, sparkling Pinotage Rosé, Brut Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Masoga also runs a wine academy focused on training young South Africans for opportunities within the industry.

Heritage and Regional Identity Shape Local Labels

Several exhibitors connect their wines to personal heritage, regional identity and the stories of their founders.

This adds another layer to the expo beyond the individual wines available for visitors to discover.

    17. Thornleigh Wines

Thornleigh Wines was founded by Thornton Pillay, recognised as South Africa’s first winemaker of Indian origin.

Its range includes Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Semi Sweet Shiraz and Rosé.

The brand connects Western Cape wine production with KwaZulu Natal influences and places particular emphasis on pairing wines with flavourful dishes, including curries.

    18. Ayana Wines

Ayana Wines is a Gauteng based wine brand with a portfolio that includes Ayana Premium Red, Ayana Rosé and Chenin Blanc.

The name Ayana means “beautiful flower” in Swahili, while the African elephant forms part of the brand’s identity.

The business forms part of South Africa’s growing landscape of Black owned wine brands and gives Gauteng consumers an opportunity to engage with a locally based business operating within the wider national wine industry.

    19. Aslina Wines

Aslina Wines was founded by acclaimed winemaker Ntsiki Biyela, widely recognised as South Africa’s first Black female winemaker.

Named after Biyela’s grandmother, the brand produces Chardonnay, Rosé, Chenin Blanc and Pinotage.

Biyela’s career and the development of Aslina have gained recognition locally and internationally, making the brand one of the more established names among the 24 exhibitors.

    20. KHULA Wine

KHULA Wine offers a varied selection spanning red, white, rosé and sparkling wine.

Its range includes a Red Blend made from Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Rosé, Semi Sweet Chenin Blanc, Dry Chenin Blanc, Demi Sec MCC and Brut.

The wines are sold through direct channels and selected retail partners, while the business also participates in wine events around South Africa.

Boutique Brands Complete the 24 Exhibitor Lineup

The final four exhibitors further broaden the selection available to visitors, with businesses representing boutique labels and wine producing areas that receive less attention than the Western Cape’s major regions.

    21. MKJ Wines

MKJ Wines is a boutique wine brand with a focused portfolio comprising Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and MCC.

The business centres its identity on personal connection and shared experiences around wine.

    22. Metsi Wines

Founded in 2023, Metsi Wines draws on African heritage, languages and storytelling.

Its portfolio includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Rosé and a Rhône style blend combining Shiraz, Grenache Noir and Cinsaut.

As one of the newer businesses in the lineup, Metsi represents the continued emergence of independent labels within the South African wine market.

    23. Gariburg Wines

Gariburg Wines represents the Northern Cape’s Karoo region and offers a broad selection of wines.

Its range includes Merlot, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, sparkling wines, Sweet White Wine and Sweet Rosé.

Its participation gives visitors an opportunity to explore wines connected to one of South Africa’s lesser known wine producing areas.

    24. Petto Wines

Petto Wines completes the lineup with a portfolio comprising Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Sparkling Wine.

The South African boutique brand is developing its presence within the local wine market while seeking opportunities to reach consumers beyond the country.

Five Gauteng Based Wine Businesses Join the Expo

Five of the participating businesses have direct Gauteng connections: Yethu Wines, Amile Wines, Lali Wines, Toasted Barrels and Ayana Wines.

Their operations illustrate different ways businesses can participate in the wine sector from a province that is not a major grape growing region.

Yethu Wines combines its own wine portfolio with distribution, while Toasted Barrels connects boutique wineries with consumers and markets. Amile Wines, Lali Wines and Ayana Wines have developed independent consumer facing brands with portfolios spanning several wine styles.

Their presence is particularly relevant in Gauteng, where Johannesburg and Pretoria provide large consumer markets supported by restaurants, hotels, retailers, events and hospitality businesses.

Why Gauteng Matters to the Local Wine Industry

Most South African vineyards are located far from Gauteng, but the province remains an important commercial market for wine businesses.

A wine entrepreneur does not necessarily need to own a vineyard to participate in the industry. Businesses can develop labels, work with established growers and winemakers, distribute products and build consumer networks from other provinces.

Johannesburg also provides a meeting point between producers, consumers, buyers and hospitality businesses.

Bringing 24 exhibitors together at one Gauteng venue gives residents an opportunity to encounter wines from different regions without travelling directly to the country’s traditional wine producing areas.

Anyone planning to consume alcohol should arrange safe transport before attending, including using an e hailing service or travelling with a designated driver who will not drink.

What This Means for Gauteng Residents

For Gauteng residents, the Local Wine Expo provides direct access to 24 South African wine businesses in one Johannesburg location.

The lineup gives visitors an opportunity to discover brands from established wine producing regions alongside independent labels and businesses from Gauteng, Limpopo, the Northern Cape and elsewhere in the country.

It also offers a closer look at how the wine industry operates beyond vineyards. Brand ownership, distribution, retail, education and hospitality all provide routes into the sector.

For consumers, the event provides an opportunity to discover wines that may not regularly appear on mainstream retail shelves. For sommeliers, buyers and hospitality professionals, having multiple businesses in one venue creates an opportunity to encounter a wider range of local producers and brands.
