Johannesburg is recording light rain and temperatures between 10°C and 12°C this Friday as a broad wet system affects much of the interior. Light to moderate rain is falling across Gauteng, Mpumalanga, the Free State and the Northern Cape, while the Western and Eastern Cape enjoy clear skies and temperatures reaching 25°C. The national average temperature stands at 16°C, with cloud cover dominating the northern and central provinces.

Coastal regions in the Western and Eastern Cape can expect dry, mild conditions ideal for outdoor activities, though early morning temperatures remain cool.

    South Africa Weather Highlights

    • Warmest regions: Eastern Cape and Western Cape both reaching 25°C under clear skies
    • Wettest areas: Johannesburg, Mbombela, Bloemfontein and Kimberley experiencing light rain

    Gauteng

Johannesburg is experiencing light rain with temperatures between 10°C and 12°C. Humidity sits at 91% with northeasterly winds at 10 km/h. The wet conditions are expected to persist through the afternoon, making indoor plans more comfortable than outdoor activities. Pretoria and the East Rand are seeing similar conditions with overcast skies and intermittent drizzle.

    Mpumalanga

Mbombela is recording light rain and temperatures ranging from 14°C to 17°C. Humidity is very high at 95%, with light west-southwesterly winds at 3 km/h. The Lowveld region remains wet and cool, with limited sunshine expected. Travellers on the N4 corridor should drive cautiously due to reduced visibility and wet road surfaces.

    Limpopo

Polokwane is under overcast clouds with temperatures between 13°C and 15°C. Easterly winds are blowing at 16 km/h, and humidity stands at 94%. While rain has not yet developed in the provincial capital, conditions remain damp and grey. The Waterberg and Capricorn districts are experiencing similar cloudy weather with occasional drizzle.

    North West

Mahikeng is reporting overcast clouds and temperatures from 13°C to 14°C. Northeasterly winds are gusting at 23 km/h, with humidity at 90%. The province is on the edge of the rain band affecting Gauteng and the Free State, with conditions remaining dry but heavily overcast. Rustenburg and Klerksdorp are seeing comparable cloud cover.

    Free State

Bloemfontein is experiencing light rain with temperatures ranging from 11°C to 15°C. North-northeasterly winds are blowing at 21 km/h, and humidity is at 78%. The central and eastern Free State are bearing the brunt of the wet weather, with steady drizzle expected through the afternoon. Farmers should monitor soil saturation levels, particularly in low-lying areas.

    KwaZulu-Natal

Durban is under overcast clouds with temperatures between 18°C and 23°C. Strong northeasterly winds are blowing at 28 km/h along the coast, with humidity at 63%. While the city remains dry, cloud cover is extensive and conditions feel humid. Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands are cooler and cloudier, with temperatures in the mid-teens.

    Northern Cape

Kimberley is recording light rain and temperatures from 14°C to 19°C. Northerly winds are gusting at 27 km/h, with humidity at 77%. The rain is part of the same system affecting the Free State and Gauteng. The central Karoo and areas around Upington remain drier, though cloud cover is widespread across the province.

    Eastern Cape

Gqeberha is enjoying clear skies and temperatures between 15°C and 25°C. Northeasterly winds are blowing at 16 km/h, with humidity at 64%. The coastal city is experiencing mild autumn conditions with plenty of sunshine. Mthatha and the eastern districts are slightly cooler, while the interior Karoo regions remain dry and pleasant.

    Western Cape

Cape Town is recording clear skies and temperatures from 17°C to 25°C. Easterly winds are light at 3 km/h, with low humidity at 38%. The Mother City is enjoying calm, sunny conditions ideal for outdoor plans. Stellenbosch, Paarl and the Winelands are similarly clear and mild, with no rain expected. The West Coast and Southern Cape are also dry.

    Weekend Outlook

Saturday will bring gradual clearing across the interior, with Johannesburg reaching 16°C under overcast skies. Sunday is set to improve significantly, with clear conditions and temperatures climbing to 22°C in Gauteng. The Western and Eastern Cape will remain dry and mild throughout the weekend, with temperatures in the low to mid-twenties. KwaZulu-Natal can expect partial clearing on Saturday and full sunshine by Sunday.
