Johannesburg is preparing for one of the biggest live music events of the year as international hip-hop star Travis Scott brings his Circus Maximus World Tour to FNB Stadium in Nasrec on Saturday, 11 October 2025.
More than 60,000 fans are expected to fill the venue, and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has issued a full traffic advisory ahead of the show.

    Early Traffic Build-Up Expected

JMPD said heavy traffic will start from late morning as concertgoers begin arriving at the stadium.
Gates will open at 16:00, and the performance is to start at 20:30, ending around 23:00.
Officers will be deployed from 11:00 to manage congestion and enforce safety measures around the precinct.

The department urged fans to plan their travel in advance, arrive early, and make use of public transport or organised shuttle services to avoid gridlock.
Drivers are to exercise patience, follow JMPD directions, and avoid restricted roads unless authorised.

Full and Partial Road Closures from 11:00

Several major routes around Nasrec will be closed or restricted for the day:

    • Soweto Highway: between Mentz Street and the N1 off-ramp
    • Golden Highway: between Ring 1 and Soweto Highway (access for authorised vehicles only)
    • Nasrec Road: between Recreation Road and Shaft 17 Road (pre-paid parking access via Recreation Road)
    • Booysens Reserve Road: between Crownwood Road and League Avenue

Motorists who are not attending the concert are encouraged to stay clear of the area, as only essential and emergency vehicles will be permitted in certain zones.
Traffic marshals and towing teams will monitor intersections and remove illegally parked vehicles.

    Public Transport and Shuttle Options

JMPD and event organisers have arranged park-and-ride facilities across Gauteng to ease congestion.
Shuttles will operate from Sandton City, Melrose Arch, Centurion Mall, Montecasino, Clearwater Mall, Cresta, Greenstone, Mall of Africa, Menlyn Park, East Rand Mall, The Glen, Gold Reef City, and The Grove Mall.
Each site will provide secure parking with return trips after the event.

The Gautrain will also run additional services between Park Station and Nasrec, supported by feeder buses to the stadium.
Commuters are to check the updated evening schedule on the Gautrain website before travelling.

    Ride-Hailing and VIP Access

Ride-hailing services will operate in a dedicated zone near Booysens Reserve Road.
JMPD warned that vehicles stopping outside the designated area risk fines or towing.

VIP and hospitality ticket holders will have separate access routes and parking areas. Officials recommend arriving before 18:00 to ensure a smooth entry.

    Safety and Crowd Management

JMPD, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and private security teams will coordinate crowd control, parking, and visible policing throughout the day.
The department said officers would prioritise pedestrian safety and quick response to any emergencies.
Emergency lanes will remain open, and fans are encouraged to report unsafe behaviour or suspicious activity to nearby officers.

    Impact on Local Residents

Nasrec, Ormonde, and Crown Gardens residents can expect heavier traffic, noise, and delayed travel during the event.
Those needing access to restricted roads should keep identification or proof of residence.

Alternative routes include Main Reef Road, N17, N12, and Rand Show Road.
Public transport commuters should plan for longer travel times near Booysens, Nasrec, and Crown Mines.

    City-Wide Coordination

The City of Johannesburg confirmed that multiple departments are working together to ensure safety and mobility during the concert.
Officials said such international events stimulate local tourism, transport, and retail industries, contributing to Gauteng’s economy.
They called on residents and motorists to cooperate with officers on duty to help the event run smoothly.

    Boost for Johannesburg’s Live-Event Scene

Travis Scott’s global tour has sold out stadiums across Europe and North America.
The Johannesburg leg is expected to deliver the same spectacle, featuring large-scale visuals, pyrotechnics, and a world-class stage setup.

Local businesses in the hospitality and transport sectors are preparing for increased demand across the weekend.
Industry observers say that large concerts like this one reaffirm Johannesburg’s reputation as Africa’s entertainment capital.

    Advice for Concert-Goers

JMPD shared several recommendations for fans attending the show:

    • Arrive before 17:00 to avoid long queues.
    • Use park-and-ride shuttles or Gautrain instead of driving directly to the stadium.
    • Carry only essential items and keep valuables secure.
    • Follow all instructions from JMPD and event personnel.
    • Stay hydrated and be mindful of crowd movement.
    • Check official JMPD social media accounts for live updates on traffic and road closures.

Collective Effort for a Smooth Event

Authorities emphasised that the day’s success relies on planning and cooperation from the public.
They encouraged residents to show patience, use alternate routes, and respect traffic restrictions.

For concertgoers, using organised transport and adhering to JMPD guidance will help ensure an enjoyable and safe evening.
The event also provides an opportunity for Johannesburg to demonstrate its ability to host international shows at a high standard.
