Johannesburg will experience cloudy conditions on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging between 14°C and 19°C under broken cloud cover. A divided weather pattern is in place across South Africa today, with light rain affecting the eastern interior provinces while the western and southern regions enjoy clear, warmer conditions. The national average temperature sits at 21°C.

What This Means for Your Day

If you’re in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, or the Free State, keep an umbrella handy as light rain showers are expected throughout the day. Motorists in these provinces should allow extra travel time and use headlights during rainy periods. Those in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape can expect dry, warm conditions ideal for outdoor activities. Gauteng residents will need a light jacket for the cooler morning, with cloud cover persisting through the afternoon.

    Gauteng

Johannesburg and Pretoria will see broken clouds throughout Wednesday, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 19°C. North-northeasterly winds at 7 km/h will keep conditions relatively calm. Humidity levels at 76% may make the air feel slightly heavier than the temperature suggests. No rain is expected, but the persistent cloud cover will limit sunshine.

    Limpopo

Polokwane will receive light rain today with temperatures between 15°C and 22°C. Stronger easterly winds at 21 km/h will accompany the wet weather, with humidity at 75%. Residents should prepare for intermittent showers and wet road conditions, particularly during the morning and midday hours.

    Mpumalanga

Mbombela will experience light rain with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 24°C. Humidity levels are high at 86%, creating muggy conditions alongside the rainfall. Winds remain light at 2 km/h from the northeast. Outdoor plans should account for wet conditions, and farmers in the Lowveld should monitor water levels in low-lying areas.

    North West

Mahikeng will see scattered clouds with temperatures between 15°C and 23°C. North-northeasterly winds are notably stronger at 27 km/h, which may create breezy conditions throughout the day. The province remains dry, but the wind factor will be noticeable for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

    Free State

Bloemfontein will experience light rain with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 24°C. Northerly winds at 21 km/h will accompany the showers, with humidity at 63%. The combination of rain and moderate winds will require caution on major routes, including the N1 corridor.

    KwaZulu-Natal

Durban will see scattered clouds with temperatures between 19°C and 25°C. Northeasterly winds at 19 km/h coming off the Indian Ocean will create pleasant coastal conditions. Humidity sits at 74%, typical for the coastal region. No rain is forecast, making it a suitable day for beach activities with some cloud cover.

    Northern Cape

Kimberley will enjoy few clouds and warm conditions, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 27°C. Northerly winds at 28 km/h will be the strongest in the country today, so secure any loose outdoor items. The clear conditions and warmer temperatures mark a contrast to the cooler, wetter northern provinces.

    Eastern Cape

Gqeberha will experience clear skies with temperatures between 16°C and 24°C. East-northeasterly winds at 14 km/h will provide gentle coastal breezes. Humidity at 70% remains comfortable, and the sunshine will make for excellent conditions across the Nelson Mandela Bay area.

    Western Cape

Cape Town will see clear skies and the warmest conditions alongside the Northern Cape, with temperatures ranging from 19°C to 27°C. North-northwesterly winds are light at 3 km/h, and humidity is low at 46%, creating comfortable autumn conditions. UV levels will be moderate to high, so sun protection is advisable for extended outdoor exposure.

    Weekend Outlook

The weather pattern will shift heading into the weekend. Johannesburg can expect gradual warming, with Thursday reaching 24°C under overcast skies, followed by Friday’s clearer conditions and a high of 26°C. Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures between 23°C and 26°C with scattered to overcast clouds. The weekend looks dry for Gauteng and most of the interior, with temperatures becoming more typical for early autumn.

    Weather Tips for Today

    • Carry an umbrella if you’re in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, or the Free State
    • Drive cautiously in wet conditions and ensure headlights are on during rain
    • Apply sunscreen in the Western Cape and Northern Cape where UV exposure will be higher
    • Secure outdoor furniture and equipment in the Northern Cape and North West due to strong winds
    • Layer clothing in Gauteng to accommodate the cool morning and cloudy afternoon
    • Check road conditions before travelling through the Free State on the N1
