TUT – Counselling Psychology Internship Programme (4 Posts)

Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to apply for Counselling Psychology Internship positions at their Pretoria West Campus. About the Opportunity

TUT’s Directorate of Student Development and Support (SDS) is offering four Counselling Psychology internship vacancies. The internship programme spans 12 months and is set to commence on 2nd January 2026. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals aiming to expand their skillset and make a meaningful contribution to the academic and personal development of students.

Key Responsibilities and Critical Performance Areas

Interns will be required to:

  • Support and guide students with their academic and personal challenges.
  • Develop counselling strategies that align with TUT’s academic environment and student needs.
  • Collaborate with other counselling professionals and develop the necessary competencies to handle diverse student cases effectively.
  • Take part in student support services and contribute to the wellbeing of students across the campus.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently registered for an MA in Counselling Psychology at a recognised university.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students both individually and in groups.
  • Effective communication skills, demonstrating both presentation and facilitation abilities.
  • Commitment to professional ethics, including maintaining confidentiality and adhering to a professional code of conduct.

Competencies and Skills Required

Ideal candidates will possess the following competencies:

  • Ability to take initiative and think creatively to address complex student needs.
  • Proven leadership qualities with the ability to manage group dynamics and work independently.
  • Capability to apply a professional code of ethics and maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Strong academic foundation with excellent presentation, lecturing, and facilitation skills in various settings (individuals, groups, etc.).
