The March and March movement has announced plans to continue holding weekly protests for the next six months, following nationwide anti-illegal immigration demonstrations that took place across South Africa on 30 June. Movement leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma said government has six months to strengthen border security and remove undocumented foreign nationals, warning that demonstrations will continue every Thursday until the group’s demands are addressed.

Businesses across Gauteng are implementing contingency plans ahead of the planned 30 June protests, with some retailers warning of possible delivery disruptions while government insists Tuesday will remain a normal working day. Grocery delivery platforms, retailers and logistics companies are reviewing operations on a location-by-location basis as law enforcement agencies prepare for demonstrations planned in several parts of the country.

The Department of Home Affairs will extend operating hours nationwide this weekend as more than 370,000 uncollected Smart ID Cards remain at offices across South Africa. The move coincides with the Electoral Commission’s Voter Registration Weekend and is aimed at helping eligible citizens obtain the identification documents required to register and participate in future elections.
