Key Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
To be eligible for the position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- MBChB qualification with registration as a medical practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- A minimum of five years of appropriate experience as a Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA as an independent medical practitioner.
- At least three years of this experience must be in the public sector.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Health Management (diploma or degree) will be an advantage.
- Management experience in the public sector is strongly recommended.
- A valid driver’s licence is required.
Core Responsibilities
The Manager Medical Services will oversee several critical areas within the clinical services units at their respective hospitals:
- Daily operations management: Ensuring smooth and efficient operations of clinical services.
- Hospital and interdepartmental visits: Conducting regular visits to assess challenges and mitigate any issues affecting service delivery.
- Ward rounds: Conducting frequent rounds to stay updated on clinical matters and address patient care concerns.
- Strategic meetings participation: Actively engaging in clinical meetings and decision-making processes with healthcare teams.
- Patient safety and quality healthcare: Contributing to improving the overall patient safety and quality of healthcare.
- Performance management: Analyzing performance indicators to improve hospital service delivery.
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with the Ideal Hospital Frameworks and Office of Health Standards Compliance.
- Financial & human resource management: Managing resources to ensure efficient use of funds and staff.
