    The Gauteng Tourism Authority is recruiting a permanent legal manager to oversee governance, compliance and legal services, with a cost to company package of R1 250 958 per year. Qualified legal and governance professionals have until 16:00 on 18 September 2026 to submit applications for the position.

    The role will manage governance frameworks, regulatory compliance, legal advisory services and contract administration while providing support to the Company Secretary, Board, Executive Management and GTA business units.

    What the GTA Legal and Compliance Job Involves

    The vacancy carries reference number LCGC/2026 and is a permanent Haygroup Salary Scale Level 18 position.

    Corporate governance will form a major part of the successful candidate’s responsibilities.

    This includes supporting the development and review of governance policies, Board Charters, Delegations of Authority and Committee Terms of Reference.

    The manager will also monitor governance compliance and coordinate the implementation of Board and Committee resolutions.

    Compliance and Legal Advisory Responsibilities

    The successful applicant will develop and implement compliance frameworks aligned with the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations and other applicable legislation.

    Responsibilities include conducting compliance reviews across GTA business units and preparing reports for Executive Management, Board Committees and relevant regulatory authorities.

    The manager will also:

    • Provide legal opinions
    • Draft and review agreements
    • Negotiate contracts
    • Manage litigation with external legal counsel
    • Conduct legal research
    • Monitor changes in legislation and case law
    • Assess legal risks
    • Manage contracts and renewal timelines
    • Support Board and Committee governance processes

    The role therefore requires experience extending beyond legal advisory work into organisational governance and regulatory compliance.

    Minimum Qualifications for Applicants

    Candidates need a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, including an LLB, or another related qualification.

    A postgraduate qualification in Corporate Governance, Compliance or Commercial Law will be an added advantage.

    Applicants must also have at least five years of experience in governance, legal advisory or compliance management.

    GTA states that public sector experience and PFMA compliance experience are essential.

    Contract and Board Governance Responsibilities

    The successful manager will oversee supplier contracts, service level agreements and partnership agreements.

    This includes drafting, vetting and negotiating agreements as well as maintaining a central contract management system.

    The manager will monitor contract obligations, compliance requirements and renewal deadlines.

    Support to the Company Secretary will include preparing Board and Committee documentation, tracking resolutions and supporting governance administration.
