Gauteng after dark has something for every mood, from award-winning cocktail bars and Saturday-night jazz to big live gigs and a dance floor that keeps going until late. These six places were all checked as active in 2026. Opening times change often, so confirm with the venue or the ticket seller before you head out.
Sin + Tax, Rosebank
Hidden on the corner of Bolton and Jan Smuts roads in Rosebank, Sin + Tax is a speakeasy-style cocktail bar that has twice made the World’s 50 Best Bars list, in 2023 and 2024. Expect an inventive, regularly changing cocktail menu, low lighting and a crowd that comes for the drinks as much as the atmosphere. It opens from Wednesday to Saturday, and it is worth booking for weekends.
Jazz at Jozi Gold, Braamfontein
Braamfontein’s jazz scene has a new Saturday-night home. Jazz at Jozi Gold brings well-known South African jazz musicians to Jozi Gold Brewing Company at 81 De Korte Street, the building that once housed the much-loved Orbit jazz club. Shows are ticketed through Quicket, so check the line-up and book ahead.
Railways Café, Irene
On Hack Road in Irene, between Centurion and Pretoria, Railways Café is a relaxed café and live-music venue. It regularly hosts some of South Africa’s best-known bands and singer-songwriters, with rock band Prime Circle booked for 28 November 2026. Buy tickets online in advance, as door prices can be higher.
Soweto Theatre, Jabavu
For a night out with a difference, catch a show at the Soweto Theatre in Jabavu. Its 2026 programme has included a revival of the musical Sarafina! and performances by the Mzansi Youth Choir. Check what is on before you go, and book tickets in advance for popular productions.
Tiger’s Milk, several Gauteng locations
For an easy-going night with friends, Tiger’s Milk combines a busy bar with a full kitchen. In Gauteng you will find it at Appletons Village, in Bryanston and at Cedar Square, among others. Check the Tiger’s Milk locations page for your nearest spot.
Madison Avenue, Rivonia
When you want to dance, Madison Avenue on Wessel Road in Rivonia is a stylish club and lounge known for its cocktails, with booths that groups can book. It also hosts themed events, so check its listings for what is on and whether an event is age-restricted.
