The Department of Health is calling for applications for the prestigious position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Pretoria West Hospital, under a Five (5)-Year Fixed Term Contract Appointment. Key Responsibilities
As the Chief Executive Officer, the appointee will have numerous critical responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Develop a comprehensive strategic plan for the hospital, aligning it with national and provincial health objectives and the National Development Plan (NDP).
- Provide strategic leadership to enhance operational efficiency and improve health outcomes.
- Oversee the hospital’s performance and ensure alignment with provincial health priorities.
Financial Management
- Maximise revenue through the collection of all income due to the hospital.
- Ensure effective financial management in line with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and relevant financial guidelines.
- Develop and implement policies, systems, and procedures to manage the hospital’s finances prudently.
Facility and Human Resource Management
- Ensure facility management systems are in place to improve service delivery and the maintenance of hospital facilities and equipment.
- Lead the human resource management functions, including developing policies for effective utilisation of human resources.
- Promote a safe and healthy working environment, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and creating a positive work culture.
Clinical & Corporate Governance
- Oversee clinical governance, ensuring the highest standards of patient care are maintained.
- Lead the development of corporate governance, including risk management, infrastructure planning, and occupational health and safety.
Procurement and Supplies Management
- Implement and monitor a procurement system that is transparent, fair, competitive, and cost-effective.
- Ensure timely procurement of goods and services in line with provincial guidelines and the PFMA.
Requirements for the Role
To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications: A Grade 12 Certificate and an appropriate Degree (NQF Level 7) in a health-related field, along with current registration with the relevant professional body. A postgraduate qualification in Management is highly advantageous.
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of management experience in public health.
- Knowledge & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of legislation, regulations, and policies in the public health sector.
- Expertise in strategic planning, financial management, and people management.
- Demonstrated ability in programme and project management, change management, and service delivery innovation.
- Strong communication skills, client orientation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Additional Requirements:
- A valid driver’s licence (exceptions apply for persons with disabilities).
- Computer literacy is essential.
- Willingness to work irregular hours and manage responsibilities effectively.

Selection Process

Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority).
