PayJustNow is a South African buy now, pay later service. It offers two plans, Pay in 3 and Pay in 12, and you can use it online and in store at participating retailers. Here is how each plan works, what you need to sign up and how to find stores that accept it.

How Pay in 3 works
- Your purchase is split into three payments.
- You pay the first one at checkout.
- The other two are deducted automatically on your salary date in the following two months.
- PayJustNow says Pay in 3 is interest-free, with no fees when payments are made on time.
- Late or missed payments may lead to a penalty fee.
How Pay in 12 works
- Pay in 12 spreads your payments over 12 months.
- Unlike Pay in 3, it charges interest. PayJustNow says your personalised interest rate is shown before you confirm your plan.
- You open a Pay in 12 account in the PayJustNow app. The credit is provided by FinChoice, a registered credit provider, which checks your credit history and affordability.
- Missed payments may lead to a late fee and may be reported to the credit bureau.
What you need to sign up
- A valid South African ID.
- A South African cellphone number and email address.
- A South African-issued Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card.
For Pay in 3, PayJustNow runs a quick affordability and ID check, which it says will not affect your credit score.
