The Impact of Big Brother Mzansi
Hlangabezo’s participation in Big Brother Mzansi, which premiered in January, meant he missed the first term of school. Upon returning for the second term, he quickly realised the challenge of balancing his teaching career with the demands of his burgeoning presence in the entertainment world. “It was hard for me to balance work in the industry and my profession,” Hlangabezo shared. As a result, he opted to extend his unpaid leave from his role as a qualified educator.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Despite stepping away from the classroom, Hlangabezo’s influence on his former pupils has grown. He candidly admits that his life has “changed a lot,” revealing a busy schedule filled with collaborations with various brands on a weekly basis. Despite receiving multiple invitations from different marquees for the Durban July, he chose to accept Executive Concerts’ offer, where T’bo Touch and business personality Hope Mbele will host.
Expressing his excitement for the event, Hlangabezo said, “Durban July is one of the biggest events in South Africa and I’m very excited to see people recognise me after being on Big Brother is something that I’m grateful for.” The Executive Concerts marquee will feature a stellar lineup, including Kabza De Small, Nkosazana Daughter, DJ Merlon, Stanky, and other local legends, blending amapiano beats with refined sophistication. Andile Chili, founding partner of Executive Concerts, emphasised that their event is about “shaping a cultural moment where Africa’s elite can connect, celebrate and showcase the best of who we are.”
