March and March has temporarily suspended its activities while its leadership undertakes consultations through the newly established SA First Forum ahead of planned demonstrations on 30 September 2026. The movement confirmed the pause on Tuesday, 18 August, saying it is engaging with various organisations to strengthen its advocacy work and organisational structures. The announcement comes weeks after nationwide anti illegal immigration protests and signals a temporary shift from public demonstrations to consultation and planning.

The March and March movement has announced plans to continue holding weekly protests for the next six months, following nationwide anti-illegal immigration demonstrations that took place across South Africa on 30 June. Movement leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma said government has six months to strengthen border security and remove undocumented foreign nationals, warning that demonstrations will continue every Thursday until the group’s demands are addressed.

Three people have been arrested after gunfire erupted during Johannesburg’s 30 June anti-illegal immigration protest, bringing a tense end to what had largely been a peaceful day of demonstrations. Police confirmed that two people, including a 17-year-old, were injured after shots were allegedly fired at protesters in Hillbrow following the official conclusion of the march.
