South Africans receiving a SARS tax refund in 2026 have an important decision to make as billions of rand flow back to taxpayers during the current filing season. By the end of 1 July, more than 1.9 million taxpayers had been auto assessed and about R8 billion in refunds had been paid within 72 hours, according to the South African Revenue Service.
