Position Overview:

The Principal of Gauteng Nursing College will be responsible for leading the planning, delivery, and evaluation of a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education programmes. The successful candidate will ensure that nursing education meets the highest standards, with a focus on addressing the critical nursing skills shortage in the Gauteng Province.

This is a strategic leadership role that involves collaboration with senior management to guide the development and implementation of training programmes, fostering strong relationships with regulatory bodies, and ensuring that the college operates within the prescribed legislative framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategic Planning: Provide leadership and direction to ensure effective delivery of nursing education programmes.
  • Program Development: Lead the development and implementation of training programmes aimed at reskilling and upskilling nursing professionals.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Maintain strong communication with regulatory bodies, ensuring that nursing education is aligned with national standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the quality of education and programme implementation across campuses.
  • Financial and Human Resources Management: Oversee the management of both financial and human resources, ensuring the effective running of the college.
  • Governance and Compliance: Ensure the college complies with all norms, standards, and regulations applicable to nursing education institutions.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • A Grade 12 Certificate.
    • A Basic Nursing Qualification registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in terms of Government Notice 425 (i.e., a Diploma or Degree in Nursing).
    • Post-basic qualifications in Nursing Education and Nursing Management/Administration, both of which must be registered with the SANC.
    • NQF Level 9 (Master’s Degree in Nursing). A PhD qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 13 years of appropriate nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC.
    • Of the 13 years, 9 years must include experience in Nursing Education after obtaining a post-basic qualification in Nursing Education.
    • At least 5 years of managerial experience at a Nursing College or Higher Nursing Education Institution.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Proven experience in Strategic Leadership and Programme/Project Management.
    • Knowledge of Financial Management, Change Management, and People Management.
    • Strong communication, problem-solving, and client orientation skills.
    • A valid Driver’s Licence and Computer Literacy are essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership in Nursing Education:
    • Lead and direct the planning, development, and delivery of nursing education programmes to meet the province’s needs.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve nursing education, including upskilling and reskilling existing nurses.
  2. Programmatic and Operational Oversight:
    • Manage the governance and administrative functions of the college, ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning.
    • Work closely with senior managers and Chief Executive Officers in overseeing the annual admission process for nursing programmes.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain productive relationships with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies, healthcare organisations, and training institutions.
    • Monitor the implementation of policies, programmes, and regulations related to nursing education and practice.
  4. Financial and Resource Management:
    • Manage financial and human resources efficiently to ensure that the college’s operations remain effective and sustainable.
    • Oversee strategic planning and resource allocation to support nursing training.
  5. Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Monitor the performance and effectiveness of training programmes, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with national health objectives.

  • Documents Required: In addition to the Z83 form, submit a detailed CV and certified copies of your educational qualifications. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit further documentation and undergo a technical exercise and competency assessment.

  • Selection Process: Shortlisted candidates will undergo a technical assessment, and final selection will depend on successful completion of a competency-based assessment.
