Joburg City Theatres Internship Opportunities
Joburg City Theatres (JCT) has officially announced its 2025 Internship Programme, offering young graduates and students the chance to gain valuable industry experience in Johannesburg’s vibrant arts and theatre sector.
About the Internship Programme
The initiative is designed to provide practical training for students and graduates, either as part of their academic requirements or as post-study experiential exposure. Successful candidates will intern across Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Soweto Theatre (Jabulani), and Roodepoort Theatre (Florida) for a period not exceeding 24 months.
The programme is open to South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 who reside in Johannesburg communities. Importantly, applicants must not have participated in a previous internship programme unless it was unrelated to their course of study.
Available Internship Positions
JCT is offering a variety of internships across departments, each with a monthly stipend of R6,094 (no additional benefits). Opportunities include:
1. Programming Internships (x3)
- Location: Joburg, Soweto, and Roodepoort Theatres
- Requirements: Diploma or degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, Arts Administration, Arts Management, or Project Management.
- Duties: Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing theatre productions, rehearsals, and events.
2. Stage Internship
- Location: Roodepoort Theatre
- Requirements: Diploma in Live Events Technical Production.
- Duties: Rig lighting, audio, AV, and stage equipment, assist with sets, and manage technical operations.
3. Marketing Internship
- Location: Joburg Theatre, Braamfontein
- Requirements: Diploma in Digital Marketing, Communications, or Social Media Marketing.
- Duties: Support creative campaigns, manage social media, and capture behind-the-scenes content.
4. Graphic Design Internship
- Location: Joburg Theatre, Braamfontein
- Requirements: Diploma in Multimedia, Adobe Suite knowledge, and a design portfolio.
- Duties: Create visuals for stage productions, adapt content for digital and print, and assist in design projects.
5. Employee Relations Internship
- Location: Joburg Theatre, Braamfontein
- Requirements: Diploma or degree in Labour Relations, HR Management, Industrial Relations, or Employment Law.
- Duties: Provide administrative support in disciplinary hearings, labour cases, and CCMA/Bargaining Council processes.
6. Marketing & Public Relations Internship
- Location: Soweto Theatre, Jabulani
- Requirements: Diploma or degree in Marketing, PR, Communications, or Media Studies.
- Duties: Draft press releases, manage media coverage, and support event promotions.
7. Building & Security Internship
- Location: Roodepoort Theatre, Florida
- Requirements: Grade 12 or N3 certificate with basic plumbing knowledge.
- Duties: Assist in theatre maintenance, safety checks, and building operations.
