The new DStv packages (from 17 September 2026)
DStv restructured its line-up on 17 September 2026. There are now five main packages, each available on DStv Stream (no dish needed) or with a decoder. These are the standard month-to-month prices.
| Package | Channels | Stream per month | Decoder per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 85+ | R99 | R150 |
| Select | 100+ | R299 | R339 |
| Sports | 115+ | R399 | R479 |
| Movies & Series | 115+ | R500 | R500 |
| Premium | 130+ | R799 | R979 |
| EasyView | 35+ | n/a | R30 |
Premium on contract: the DStv Store lists Premium from R699 a month on a Stream contract. Decoder customers who sign a 24-month contract pay R799 a month, including the Access Fee; DStv arranges these contracts through its call centre.
The Sports package carries the Premier League, Champions League, PSL, SuperSport Cricket, the Currie Cup and some United Rugby Championship matches. Springbok and international rugby, Formula 1, tennis and golf stay on Premium.
What happened to Access, Family and Compact?
They were replaced, and existing subscribers are moved automatically: Access became Starter, Family became Select and Compact became Sports. DStv says customers who are moved will not pay more for their new package, and no new decoder or app update is needed.
Premium and EasyView continue unchanged. Compact Plus is no longer available to new subscribers, and DStv says existing Compact Plus customers stay on their package unless they choose to change. MultiChoice has told TechCentral it plans to move Compact Plus customers to Premium at their current price for 12 months, so watch for a notice from DStv if you are on Compact Plus.
Which package should you pick?
- Sport comes first: Premium (R799 on Stream, R979 with a decoder) is the only package with Springbok and international rugby, F1, tennis and golf. The R399 Sports package is the budget pick for football and cricket, but not the Boks.
- Everyday family viewing: Select at R299 on Stream has 100+ channels, every PSL match and the kids’ channels. For movies and series, Movies & Series at R500 carries M-Net, M-Net Movies+, kykNET, Discovery and BBC Earth.
- Tightest budget: Starter at R99 on Stream is the cheapest of the five, with 85+ channels including SuperSport KICKOFF. EasyView, at R30 a month with a decoder, remains the cheapest DStv option.
Common questions
When do DStv prices change? DStv usually adjusts prices on 1 April. In 2026 MultiChoice confirmed there would be no April increase, but it has not ruled out changes later in the year. We cover each announcement as it lands.
How do I check or change my package? Use the MyDStv app, DStv’s WhatsApp self-service, the DStv website or Customer Care.
What about add-ons? Existing add-ons such as Add Indian, Add Movies, Netflix, Mobile Stream and XtraView remain available where they apply. Disney+ is no longer available on the Streama and Explora boxes.
