Chief Executive Officer Job Opportunity Bronkhorstspruit Hospital

The Department of Health is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Bronkhorstspruit Hospital. This is a five-year fixed-term contract appointment offering an all-inclusive remuneration package of R1 059 105 per annum.

The position is a senior management role aimed at overseeing both the clinical and administrative operations of the hospital.

Key Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Appropriate Degree (NQF Level 7) in a health-related field
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body
  • A postgraduate qualification in Management will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ management experience in public health

Additionally, candidates must possess a valid Driver’s Licence (exceptions apply for persons with disabilities) and demonstrate computer literacy. The role requires a deep understanding of legislation, regulations, and policies in the public sector, particularly those relating to the healthcare industry and hospital management.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Executive Officer will play a pivotal role in the strategic and operational management of Bronkhorstspruit Hospital. Key duties and responsibilities include:

1. Strategic Planning & Leadership

The CEO will be responsible for preparing a strategic plan for the hospital, ensuring alignment with national and provincial plans, as well as healthcare priorities. The leader will provide strategic guidance to improve hospital operations, with a focus on enhancing patient care and health outcomes.

2. Financial Management

A critical aspect of the role will involve overseeing the financial operations of the hospital, including maximising revenue, managing the hospital’s budget in line with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures.

3. Facility & Human Resource Management

The CEO will oversee effective facility management, ensuring optimal service delivery, and the planning and maintenance of hospital infrastructure. The role also includes managing human resources, from policy development to the promotion of a healthy and safe working environment for staff.

4. Procurement & Supply Management

The successful candidate will be expected to implement and monitor a procurement system that is transparent, competitive, and cost-effective. They will ensure that goods and services are procured timely and within budget, and in compliance with the relevant regulations.

5. Clinical Governance & Corporate Oversight

The CEO will ensure high standards of patient care and oversee clinical governance. This includes managing corporate governance and occupational health and safety, as well as ensuring that the hospital adheres to infrastructure planning and maintenance best practices.

6. Reporting & Risk Management

The role also includes reporting to the Hospital Board and managing the institution’s risks, ensuring that strategies are in place for optimal achievement of health outcomes.

Qualifications and Competencies

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education & Registration: A Grade 12 certificate and an appropriate degree in a health-related field (NQF Level 7) with current registration with the relevant professional body.
  • Management Experience: At least three years of management experience in the public health sector.
  • Skills & Expertise: Strong strategic leadership, financial management, people management, and problem-solving abilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the healthcare sector’s legislative framework and will be equipped to lead Bronkhorstspruit Hospital towards greater operational efficiency and improved patient care outcomes.
