The DStv channel change in South Africa is set to shake things up for television viewers, with some major shifts coming to popular packages. In October 2025, NBCUniversal will replace the E! channel with Bravo Africa. This change is part of a broader channel review by DStv, which is committed to offering a more relevant and diverse selection of content. With fresh updates across several packages, this transition is sure to catch the attention of many South African households.

E! Channel to Be Replaced by Bravo Africa in October 2025

The E! channel has had a significant run in South Africa, but its popularity has dwindled in recent years due to a lack of fresh content. In fact, its flagship show, E! News, was cancelled in July 2025. NBCUniversal has decided to phase out the channel and replace it with Bravo Africa, which will bring reality TV enthusiasts more exclusive programming.

Discover how E! Africa makes way for Bravo and what this exciting shift means for reality TV fans on DStv screens

Hendrik McDermott, Managing Director at NBCUniversal, expressed excitement about this shift, stating:
“We are thrilled to be launching Bravo Africa with our partners at DStv, building on the success of the NBCUniversal channel portfolio in Africa.”

Byron du Plessis, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa, added that reality TV fans would have a lot to look forward to on Bravo Africa. The channel will be available on multiple DStv packages, making it more accessible to a wide range of customers.

DStv Family Package Gets New Kids’ Channels

In another significant change, DStv Family will now include three major kids’ channels: DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, and Nick Jr. These channels will be added on August 25, 2025, to enhance the value of the DStv Family package. MultiChoice calls DStv Family “South Africa’s home of kids’ entertainment,” offering all 14 kids’ channels on live TV.

MultiChoice’s research shows that DStv Family subscribers value children’s content, prompting the addition of more variety for kids.

Why the Channel Changes Matter for DStv Subscribers

These changes mark a strategic shift towards offering more varied content, targeting both adults and younger viewers. By adding Bravo Africa and enriching the DStv Family package with more kids’ entertainment, DStv is aiming to keep subscribers engaged with diverse content. Additionally, these channel changes reflect the growing demand for reality TV and family-friendly programming.

As DStv adapts to shifting viewer preferences, these updates also demonstrate the company’s commitment to staying ahead of content trends, ensuring subscribers remain satisfied with what’s on offer.

Impact on DStv Pricing and Packages

While DStv continues to make updates to its channel lineup, there are also price changes that subscribers should be aware of. The DStv Family package, now priced at R339 per month, will benefit from the addition of the new kids’ channels. For streaming-only access, the price is R229 per month.

DStv has made Bravo Africa available across various packages, including DStv Access, which previously offered fewer channels. This move is designed to offer more value to customers at every price point.

What DStv’s New Channel Lineup Means for Reality TV Fans

For reality TV lovers, the arrival of Bravo Africa is an exciting development. Known for its popular shows like The Real Housewives series, Top Chef, and Below Deck, Bravo has a massive global following. The new channel will bring these hit shows to South African screens, ensuring that DStv subscribers have access to fresh, highly engaging content. This shift promises to cater to an audience that craves reality TV, with shows available across a variety of DStv packages.

How to Adapt to the New DStv Channel Changes

If you’re a current DStv subscriber, it’s important to understand how the channel changes might affect your viewing experience. To ensure you’re getting the most out of your subscription, make sure to check your current package and see if any new channels or content align with your preferences.

As Bravo Africa replaces E!, fans of reality TV can rejoice, while parents with young children will appreciate the expanded offerings on DStv Family. Whether you’re looking for the latest reality shows or need more entertainment for the little ones, DStv’s updates provide something for everyone.

For more information on these changes and how they affect your DStv subscription, visit the official DStv website.

Find out if DStv will launch a standalone SuperSport package in response to growing subscriber demand.

The DStv channel change in South Africa is more than just a reshuffling of channels; it’s a response to shifting viewer preferences and an effort to offer more diverse and engaging content for all age groups. From the replacement of E! with Bravo Africa to the expanded kids’ offerings on DStv Family, these changes reflect DStv’s commitment to providing high-quality entertainment. Whether you’re into reality TV or looking for kid-friendly shows, there’s something new to enjoy.
