Job Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification accredited with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), allowing registration as a registered nurse, midwife, psychiatric nurse, and community nursing science.
- A post-basic qualification in Nursing Education and Management.
- Master’s degree in Nursing (applicants in the data analysis stage of research may be considered).
- SANC registration as an assessor and moderator.
- Valid driver’s licence and computer literacy.
- Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 9 years’ experience in nursing after SANC registration as a professional nurse.
- At least 5 years of experience in Nursing Education, including 2 years in the appropriate speciality.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of nursing education procedures, relevant acts, and regulations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, write reports, and manage academic staff and students effectively.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Academic Head of Department will be responsible for overseeing the provision of education and training for nursing students at the Gauteng College of Nursing. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and managing student education and clinical exposure.
- Developing and implementing quality assurance programmes for the academic department.
- Supervising and appraising academic staff and providing academic support to students.
- Contributing to curriculum development, review, and evaluation.
- Conducting research related to nursing education and collaborating with stakeholders.
- Participating in academic and management committees, contributing to the overall governance of the College.
