South Africa Weather Today – Wednesday, 10 June 2026

Johannesburg is experiencing clear skies and cool midwinter conditions on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, with temperatures ranging between 8°C and 17°C. The city is part of a broader high-pressure system dominating most of the interior, delivering stable and dry weather across seven of the country’s nine provinces. Only the coastal regions of KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape are seeing cloud cover, while the rest of the country enjoys clear conditions and moderate daytime temperatures. The national average temperature stands at 16°C.

What This Means for Your Day

Morning temperatures will be cold across the interior, with frost possible in sheltered areas of the Free State and southern Gauteng. Layered clothing is recommended for early commutes, particularly in Bloemfontein and Johannesburg where lows of 7°C and 8°C are expected. Coastal residents in Durban and Cape Town will experience milder starts but increased cloud cover throughout the day. UV levels remain moderate despite the clear skies, so outdoor workers in the northern provinces should still apply sun protection during midday hours.

    South Africa Weather Highlights

    • Warmest conditions: Mbombela reaching 23°C under clear skies
    • Coolest morning: Bloemfontein dropping to 7°C overnight
    • Cloud cover: Durban and Cape Town seeing broken and scattered clouds respectively

Johannesburg will see clear skies throughout Wednesday with temperatures between 8°C and 17°C. Pretoria and the East Rand can expect similar conditions with light northerly winds around 13 km/h. The morning will feel particularly cold, making warm clothing essential for school runs and early commutes. Afternoon conditions will remain crisp but comfortable under full sunshine.

    Western Cape

Cape Town is recording scattered clouds with temperatures ranging from 13°C to 18°C. Coastal areas will experience light north-easterly winds at 2 km/h, with humidity sitting at 72 percent. The cloud cover will persist through the day without rain expected. Inland areas of the Winelands and Garden Route should see partial clearing by late afternoon.

    KwaZulu-Natal

Durban faces broken cloud cover with temperatures between 18°C and 21°C, making it one of the mildest centres in the country. Humidity levels are elevated at 74 percent, with light north-easterly winds at 3 km/h. Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands will see similar cloudy conditions. No rain is forecast, but the coastal belt will remain overcast throughout the day.

    Eastern Cape

Gqeberha is enjoying clear skies with temperatures from 13°C to 20°C. Northerly winds at 12 km/h will keep conditions stable across the metro and surrounding areas. East London and Mthatha will experience comparable weather, with morning temperatures requiring jackets before warming into the high teens by afternoon. Humidity remains high at 78 percent along the coast.

    Free State

Bloemfontein will record the coldest morning low in the country at 7°C, climbing to 18°C under clear skies. North-easterly winds at 17 km/h will add a wind-chill factor during early hours. Welkom and Bethlehem should prepare for frost in low-lying areas, with the province experiencing typical dry winter conditions and excellent visibility throughout the day.

    Limpopo

Polokwane is seeing clear skies with temperatures between 9°C and 20°C. North-easterly winds at 14 km/h will keep conditions stable across the Capricorn District. Tzaneen and Musina will experience slightly warmer afternoon highs, with the Lowveld areas benefiting from sheltered valleys. The province remains dry with no rain expected.

    Mpumalanga

Mbombela is recording the highest temperature in the country at 23°C, with a morning low of 11°C under clear skies. Easterly winds at 5 km/h will keep conditions calm across Nelspruit and surrounding areas. The Lowveld will be noticeably warmer than the Highveld, making it ideal for outdoor activities. Humidity sits at 56 percent with no precipitation forecast.

    North West

Mahikeng will see clear skies with temperatures from 10°C to 21°C. North-north-easterly winds are the strongest in the country at 26 km/h, which may cause some discomfort during outdoor activities. Rustenburg and Potchefstroom can expect similar conditions with low humidity at 31 percent, contributing to dry air and increased static. The province remains under stable high pressure.

    Northern Cape

Kimberley is experiencing clear skies with temperatures between 11°C and 20°C. North-easterly winds at 13 km/h will persist through the day, with humidity at a low 35 percent. Upington and the Kalahari regions will see comparable dry conditions. The interior will remain cold overnight, with the province maintaining its typical winter pattern of large diurnal temperature ranges.

    Weekend Outlook

The high-pressure system will hold through the weekend, bringing continued clear skies to most provinces. Saturday will see temperatures climbing slightly, with Johannesburg reaching 20°C and Polokwane hitting 20°C under sunny conditions. Sunday will remain stable with similar ranges, though the Western Cape may see increased afternoon cloud development. No significant rain is expected across the country, with coastal regions maintaining mild conditions and the interior experiencing cold mornings and pleasant afternoons.

    • Dress in layers to manage cold mornings and warmer afternoons, especially in Gauteng and Free State
    • Apply sunscreen during midday hours despite cooler temperatures; UV radiation remains moderate
