    The Tshwane Metro Police Department plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the Tshwane metropolitan area. Its core functions include enforcing traffic laws, policing municipal by-laws, and contributing to crime prevention.     • Salary: Monthly stipend determined by the department
    • Post Level: Entry-level (Trainee Metro Police Officer)
    • Work Hours: To be confirmed
    • Reporting To: TMPD Training Division

    Application Requirements

    To ensure that candidates can handle the challenges of police work, the department has set specific criteria. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    Essential Criteria

    • Educational Qualification: Grade 12 (Matric) qualification. You must submit documentary proof.
    • Driver’s Licence: A valid driver’s licence for a manual transmission vehicle. You will need to pass a departmental practical driving test.
    • Criminal Record: You must have no criminal record or pending criminal cases. Candidates must allow the TMPD to take their fingerprints at their own expense.
    • Sexual and Child Offender Register: You cannot appear on the sexual and child offenders register.
    • South African Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen and reside in the City of Tshwane. Proof of residence and an affidavit confirming your address (if the surname differs from the registered owner) are required.
    • Age Range: Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
    • Health Requirements: You must be medically fit, according to occupational health procedures. A medical certificate confirming the ability to perform strenuous exercise is necessary.
    • Physical Fitness: Candidates must pass a physical fitness evaluation and assessment.
    • Psychometric Assessment: You must undergo and pass a psychometric evaluation.
    • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is required. You must pass a language assessment.
    • Firearm Competency: You should not have been declared incompetent to possess a firearm as per the Firearms Control Act.
    • Visible Tattoos: You cannot have any tattoos visible while wearing the TMPD uniform.

    Primary Job Functions

    As a Metro Police Trainee Officer, you will train to perform several key responsibilities, including:

    • Traffic Policing: You will enforce road traffic laws as per the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996).
    • Policing Municipal By-laws: You will enforce by-laws under the municipality’s jurisdiction.
    • Crime Prevention: You will contribute to reducing crime and maintaining public safety in Tshwane.

    After completing the training programme, you will deploy to various regions of the City of Tshwane and perform these functions.

    • Proof of no criminal record (police clearance certificate).
    • An affidavit confirming your address if your surname differs from the registered owner of your address.

    Step 2: Await Further Assessment

    Once you submit your application, TMPD will shortlist candidates. Shortlisted candidates will undergo the following assessments:

    • Physical Fitness Evaluation
    • Psychometric Testing
    • Practical Driving Test
    • Language Proficiency Test

    Step 3: Interview and Final Selection

    TMPD will invite successful candidates for an interview to assess their readiness for the role. The final selection will depend on the candidate’s overall performance throughout the recruitment process.
