Gauteng Tourism to promote Golden Summer ena’lanto eGauteng Campaign in the North-West at Mahika-Mahikeng Music Cultural Festival

Johannesburg, The Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) the official destination marketing agency for the Gauteng city region will this weekend 6th – 8th December 2024 be in Mahikeng – North-West on a domestic and regional tourism promotion drive to showcase the best of the golden province offerings for this festive summer and beyond. This showcase will be at the Mahika- Mahikeng Cultural Music Festival which kicks-off this weekend at Mmabatho Stadium.

Dubbed a Golden Summer ena’Lanto eGauteng, this campaign seeks to drive increased awareness of the hundreds of Gauteng golden attractions, experiences and products that are relevant and suitable for this holiday season while driving increased conversion, sales and staycation bookings across the 5 Gauteng regions.

The authority together with its marketing partners, Gautrain and Proudly SA will use the opportunity to showcase amongst others kids and family’s friendly products inclusive of waterways, amusement parks and quality heritage sites, township tourism inclusive of the kasi community games and culinary experiences, golden shopping offerings for both personal and business cross border, responsible practices this festive summer covering liquor consumption and trading, gambling, tourism, spending, children, visitors and residents’ safety and a dedicated focus and marketing of our global signature events  hosted in the province (Chris Brown, Kaytranada, TEMS, Cricket test matches, SA 20, Iber Cup etc.) and how and where to celebrate Golden Christmas and New Year in GAUTENG.

While we are encouraged by the increase in our domestic tourism spend numbers to a staggering R5.9billion and the phenomenal rise in our bed nights to 11.2 by end of Q2 of 2024 representing the highest of all the provinces, we remain determined to arrest the decline in our overall domestic holidays and overnight trips and this aggressive campaign reinforces that determination, explained Gauteng MEC for Finance & Economic Development Lebogang Maile

Golden Summer ena’Lanto eGauteng is derived from the popular phrase “Lanto”, which, when directly translated means “that thing”, the gees. This phrase is used to describe a jovial buzz and vibe, the culture, the zest that sets Gauteng apart. Deep-rooted in the people and in the soil itself, is a culture like no other, scenery like no other, wildlife like no other, food like no other, music like no other and global sports and township extravaganza like no other.

This December, it’s a Golden Summer ena’Lanto eGauteng because whether it’s tranquil and relaxation, fun and exploration, chilla’s ekasi with a camp chair and cooler box, global musical experience, authentic Amapiano sounds, Gauteng is where it’s happening and your perfect staycation destination where the vibe is the greatest. Golden – it is about gold, our premium quality assurance standards, first and pole position, the ultimate price and medal, the colour that is synonymous with millions of our residents and people.

In Mahikeng, the GAUTENG showcase and promotional drive will include direct interaction and sales activation at Mega City Mall on Friday 6th December 2024 from 12:00 till 15:00, market access platform for some of the province leading township clothing brands, another mall blitz at the new Mahikeng Mall on Saturday 7th December and the final consumer interface will be at the Mahika-Mahikeng Jazz Festival on Sunday 8th December 2024.

At the end of the showcase we expecting to have more tickets sold for Gauteng experiences including the historic Chris Brown concert at FNB Stadium next weekend, more people and families into our amusement parks and heritage sites, better appreciation of our world-class transport infrastructure like the gautrain outside Gauteng and generally a safe and responsible festive summer with high returns, concluded Gauteng Tourism CEO Sthe Dlamini.
