Durban, KwaZulu-Natal – Visit Gauteng will lead the province’s participation at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2026 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (Durban ICC), from 12–14 May 2026, preceded by Business Opportunity Networking Day (BONDay) on 11 May 2026.
Under the theme “One Pavilion – One Story – Africa’s Bleisure Powerhouse”, Gauteng will present a unified, deal‑ready showcase that connects business and leisure through mobility, culture and visitor safety. Gauteng’s presence is anchored in a unified One Pavilion approach, bringing together government, municipalities and mobility partners with the visitor economy to tell one confident sales story to global buyers, media and industry leaders.

As destinations compete on clarity and coherence, Gauteng is shifting from fragmented promotion to an integrated destination ecosystem. The pavilion is designed as a live demonstration of a hyper‑connected, future‑ready city region that converts business travel into leisure experiences, longer stays and repeat visitation.
“Gauteng means business” is also a tourism promise. The province is positioning itself as Africa’s leading bleisure city‑region destination, combining world‑class infrastructure, modern mobility, iconic sport and events, culture and creativity, and visible visitor assurance to drive trade conversion and memorable experiences.
Gauteng’s Indaba 2026 participati
on supports the province’s 2030 growth direction and Brand Gauteng, with measurable outcomes: more bed‑nights, increased spend across the value chain, and expanded opportunities for SMMEs and township enterprises. The programme advances GGT2030 priorities by strengthening jobs and enterprise development, connectivity, visitor assurance and inclusive growth, while elevating the cultural and creative industries as a core driver of demand. “In Gauteng, culture is not the side‑show—culture is the growth strategy,” said Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture & Rural Development Vuyiswa Ramokgopa.
Tourism momentum is building. Recent Statistics South Africa data for Q1 2026 shows strong growth in arrivals, with holiday travel the leading purpose of travel. Regional Africa remains the backbone of arrivals, with SADC markets contributing more than 70% each month—underscoring the importance of African mobility and regional circuits.
In long‑haul markets, the United Kingdom and Germany were leading Western sources across Q1. Bridge to Gauteng: “When Africa is moving and Europe is choosing South Africa, Gauteng is destined to be the province that converts arrivals into longer stays, higher spend and more jobs—because It Starts Here.”
The showcase is reinforced by major events and niche‑market tailwinds. Sports tourism and golf continue to drive international interest and bed‑nights, supported by marquee moments such as LIV Golf (the first on the African continent), the Joburg Open and the Soweto Derby. Faith and religious tourism also remains a strong growth segment, with peak periods such as Easter demonstrating the scale and economic value of domestic and regional travel.

Economic development has one non‑negotiable: people must feel safe to move. Gauteng is strengthening visible safety, cleaner precincts and reliable services because safety is the foundation of the visitor economy. “We don’t market over problems—we fix them. That’s how we grow a destination and remain competitive,” said Ramokgopa.
The pavilion is supported by a coalition across the visitor economy, including Gauteng Provincial Government departments, municipalities, mobility and access partners such as PRASA and Gautrain, attractions and venues, and tourism MSMEs—aligned behind one brand voice and a shared commitment to destination readiness.
