MEC Maile to provide an update on Gauteng Tourism performance and impact of hosted signature events on the provincial economy Johannesburg, On Sunday 10th August 2025, Gauteng MEC for Finance & Economic Development, Lebogang Maile will host a media briefing on Gauteng tourism’s latest performance figures, the impact of quality signature events hosted and some of the new initiatives aimed at building a competitive and resilient tourism economy in the golden province.
Scheduled to take place at the iconic FNB Stadium in Nasrec from 9:30 till 11:30, the briefing will be followed by a media tour to showcase the latest tourism infrastructure and experiences built at the national stadium. This highly anticipated briefing comes just a few days after the start of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) season and the conclusion of the protracted audit process by the Auditor-General of South African on the destination and the agency’s performance information which highlighted a continued growth trend. At the heart of the Gauteng tourism growth and recovery plan, the hosting of quality global signature events consistently and the mainstreaming of SMMEs and township tourism products as direct beneficiaries remains an important element of the Growing Gauteng
Together Vision 2030.
MEC Maile is expected to further provide an update on the progress made by destination Gauteng towards the attainment of over R30 billion international tourism revenue from the 2 million international arrivals target by Gauteng.
