MEC Motara to attend the official opening of Makhelwane Festival in Soweto

Johannesburg – Gauteng Economic Development MEC Tasneem Motara will on Friday 27th January 2023 attend and participate in the official opening of the 2023 edition of the Makhelwane Festival in Soweto.

In line with the provincial government’s priorities of mainstreaming township economy and position the province’s townships as hotbeds for economic growth and sustainable jobs especially for the youth, the MEC is set to use the festival to outline some of the dedicated interventions by her department and its entities regarding community-based enterprise development and entrepreneurial support.

The popular and fast-growing festival presented by the creatives at Locrate Market is now on its 9th year and pride itself with its unique positioning of being a developmental property which is rooted in communities and using everything local but retaining a glocal focus. In these 9yrs, the festival has managed to unearth some of the leading creative entrepreneurs and change makers in the country, inspire other townships across Gauteng to nature and believe in their local products while continuing to create jobs and contributing to the building and firming of the destination Soweto brand.

The festival  kicks off this Friday 27 January 2023 at Thesis Lifestyle, Mofolo Village from 15:00 with Business Talks covering a range of topics, insights, and how-to guidance from the province’s development finance agency (Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, Proudly SA, Gauteng Tourism Authority, City of Joburg and other partners in our quest to grow Gauteng together.

The official opening ceremony to be addressed by MEC Motara is scheduled to kick-off at 18:00 followed by an authentic township #GPLifestyle vibe.
