Shop the Bok: Official Springbok Store Debuts at Sandton City

South African rugby fans now have a brand-new home for all things Springbok. The first official Springbok retail store has officially launched in Sandton City, Johannesburg. This marks a significant moment for the national team’s brand and its loyal supporters.

Ministers Attend Grand Opening Ceremony

Key government figures attended the launch event on Thursday morning. This included Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, and Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Solly Malatsi. Their presence highlighted the importance of this milestone, not just for rugby enthusiasts, but also for the broader celebration of local sport and culture.

The store, proudly positioned in the Protea Court section of Sandton, officially welcomed shoppers from 09:00.

Springbok Store: A First for the Nation

This marks the first time South African fans can access a dedicated, physical space for official Springbok merchandise. This is a concept long embraced by major international sports teams. SARU President Mark Alexander noted the surprising absence of such a retail offering in the past.

“Until now, if someone asked where the Springbok shop was, they’d get no real answer,” said Alexander. “From Paris to Manchester, iconic sports clubs have flagship stores. It was time our world champion Springboks had the same.”

Authentic Gear and Lifestyle Apparel

The store stocks the full official Nike Springbok replica kits and an exclusive new lifestyle clothing line under the “Springboks” label. Designed to appeal to fans who want to wear their pride beyond match days, the collection fits every setting. You can wear it from casual Fridays at work to weekend braais.

SA Rugby aims to ensure every fan can support the Boks in style, regardless of the occasion.

Fighting Counterfeits with Quality and Accessibility

The initiative stems partly from growing concerns around counterfeit products mimicking Springbok branding online. SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer said that unlicensed sales have been rampant since the team’s 2019 World Cup win.

“There’s been an explosion of fake gear online, misusing our colours and symbols. It was clear there was an untapped demand, and it had to be met officially,” Oberholzer explained.

He revealed the store’s creation was a strategic goal set by the SARU Executive Council at the beginning of 2024. The store has launched within just 18 months, which is a testament to the dedicated planning and execution behind the scenes.

More Stores on the Horizon

The Sandton store is only the beginning. Plans are already underway to expand the official Springbok retail presence to other parts of the country. This will bring the same authentic experience to more fans nationwide.

“The goal is to allow fans to show their support every day, not just on match day. This store is the first step in what will become a national footprint,” Oberholzer said.

For Every Fan, Everywhere

For supporters outside of Gauteng or even abroad, the full range of merchandise is also available online at www.springbokretail.com. This ensures fans from all corners of the globe can access authentic Bok gear directly from the source.

With the launch of this store, the Springboks have moved beyond the rugby pitch to establish a meaningful presence in the everyday lives of South Africans. This is a move that strengthens the bond between the team and its passionate supporters.

Rugby Meets Retail in a Bold New Era

The Sandton City opening ushers in a fresh era for South African rugby merchandising. It’s not just a shop—it’s a statement. The Springboks are more than a team; they’re a brand, a movement, and now, a part of everyday life.
