Key Responsibilities

As a Registrar (Medical) at Kalafong Provincial Treasury Hospital, your primary responsibilities will include:

1. Comprehensive Patient Care:

  • Provide comprehensive medical care to both general and subspecialty internal medicine patients, including outpatients and inpatients.
  • Handle referrals and transfers from the hospital’s drainage area, ensuring seamless care transitions.

2. Ward Rounds & Clinic Management:

  • Conduct daily ward rounds in the medical wards.
  • Oversee the running of medical outpatient and sub-specialty clinics.
  • Perform necessary procedures for patient diagnosis and treatment, such as bone marrow aspirations and lumbar punctures.

3. Training & Mentorship:

  • Mentor and supervise junior medical staff, including undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for medical officers, registrars, medical students, and allied health workers.
  • Participate actively in undergraduate training and academic activities, including presenting at meetings.

4. Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with nursing staff, paramedical teams, patients, and their families to ensure effective communication and optimal patient care.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to implement best practices and clinical guidelines.

5. Administrative & Academic Activities:

  • Attend relevant administrative meetings.
  • Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards).
  • Contribute to research and academic activities within the discipline.

6. After-Hours Work:

  • Be willing to work after hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, to provide continuous and uninterrupted patient care.

Key Requirements

To qualify for the Registrar (Medical) position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Educational Qualifications:
    • A Grade 12 Certificate (Matric).
    • An MBCHB degree or an appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner.
  2. Current Registration:
    • Current registration with the HPCSA as an Independent Medical Practitioner for the 2025/6 financial year is required.
  3. Additional Advantage:
    • Successful completion of FCP Part I will be an added advantage.
  4. Skills & Experience:
    • Ability to provide comprehensive patient care in an internal medicine setting.
    • Strong clinical skills and the ability to perform practical procedures.
    • Excellent communication skills for effective patient and team interaction.
    • Prior experience in supervising junior doctors and being involved in medical education will be highly advantageous.
  5. Other Qualifications:
    • If you possess a foreign qualification, you must submit an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
