About the Role

The Artisan Electrician will be tasked with executing various essential electricity operations, including auditing large, medium, and low-power meters, removing illegal connections, and installing and maintaining electricity meters, prepaid meters, and circuit breakers.

Additionally, this role involves working on both overhead and underground electricity networks, handling metering, credit control activities, and inspecting metering points across the city’s network.

The position is crucial to the overall revenue protection strategy of the company, ensuring that all operations comply with safety standards and legal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execution of Special Electricity Operations: Artisan Electricians will be responsible for a wide range of duties related to the operation and maintenance of the electricity network. These operations include installing and removing meters, disconnecting and removing electricity circuit breakers, and inspecting illegal connections across the city network.
  2. Meter Auditing and Revenue Protection: A significant aspect of this position involves auditing power meters at various levels, including large, medium, and low-power meters. This task is a key element of the role, ensuring accurate metering and protection against revenue loss due to illegal activities. The Artisan Electrician will also be expected to work closely with the credit control team to resolve any issues related to metering discrepancies.
  3. Work on Medium and Low-Voltage Networks: The role involves working with both medium and low-voltage cables. This includes joining cables, wiring low-voltage meter boxes from the busbar, and maintaining the integrity of the electrical connections in compliance with safety protocols.
  4. Safety and Compliance: Ensuring strict adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993) is vital in this role. The Artisan Electrician will need to follow safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure all work practices minimize risks to health and safety.

Salary and Benefits

The position offers an attractive salary package ranging from R340,884 to R473,460 per annum, with an estimated remuneration package between R465,816 and R634,560 per annum.

  4. Physical Fitness and Health: The role involves substantial physical activity, so applicants must be in good physical condition to perform operational and maintenance tasks over extended periods.
  5. Clear Criminal Record: All applicants must undergo a criminal record check and provide fingerprints for verification purposes at their own cost.
  6. Willingness to Work Shifts: The nature of the work requires flexibility, with the possibility of working shifts, standby, and overtime.
