    About the Role

    The Registrar (Anaesthesiology) will join a dedicated team of professionals committed to providing high-quality healthcare services to patients at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital and its referring hospitals. The role requires a balance of clinical service, academic development, research involvement, and participation in clinical audit meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate through all the training hospitals, ensuring broad exposure and experience in the field.

    Job Requirements

    To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:

    • MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or an equivalent medical degree.
    • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for independent practice.
    • A DA(SA) (Diploma in Anaesthetics) is essential for consideration, with the FCA Part I (Fellowship of the College of Anaesthetists) being an added advantage.

    In addition to these qualifications, the candidate must possess a strong interest in the field of Anaesthesiology and be committed to delivering high-quality patient care while contributing to academic and research activities. The ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team is crucial for success in this role.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The responsibilities of the Registrar (Anaesthesiology) at Steve Biko Academic Hospital are comprehensive and designed to ensure both professional and personal growth. The successful candidate will be involved in:

    1. Clinical Services: Providing anaesthetic care to patients across a range of complex medical conditions. The position requires the Registrar to actively participate in anaesthesiology procedures, ensuring the highest standards of care are maintained at all times.
    2. Academic Programmes: The Registrar will be expected to engage with and contribute to the department’s academic programs. This includes teaching, training, and mentoring medical students and junior doctors, as well as participating in academic activities and conferences.
    3. Research Activities: The position offers the opportunity to engage in research, contributing to the development of new treatment protocols and medical practices in the field of anaesthesiology.
    4. Clinical Audit Meetings: The Registrar will also participate in clinical audit meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of clinical services and patient care at the hospital.
    5. Hospital Rotation: The Registrar will rotate through various training hospitals, gaining experience in different environments and expanding their clinical and academic knowledge.

    Salary and Benefits

    The annual salary for this position is R949,146 plus additional benefits, offering a competitive compensation package for the successful candidate.
