Muldersdrift is a popular escape from fast-paced Johannesburg and Pretoria. Situated only half an hour away from the noise and stress of city life, Muldersdrift is a country oasis forming part of the Crocodile Ramble, a scenic tourist route running alongside the Crocodile River. Because of its outstanding facilities and beautiful scenery, it is often chosen as a venue for weddings and other special occasions.

There is no shortage of things to do in the area; Muldersdrift is known for its fine accommodation, restaurants, spas and health resorts. If you’re looking to completely unwind and pamper yourself, visit the Chicama Country Spa. Indulge in a hydrotherapy treatment or massage, or enjoy some quiet time on the countryside patio.

Muldersdrift has also acquired a reputation for being an arts and culture hub, boasting a variety of galleries, markets and studios to explore. Spend some time at the Ngwenya Glass Village, where you’ll be invited to watch glass-blowing demonstrations and purchase beautiful, recycled glassware. Stay on for lunch and accomplish a bit of country shopping while the kids enjoy the playground facilities on offer.

Ngwenya is also home to Gilroy’s Brewery, which offers entertaining tasting sessions. Be sure to book for this in advance to enjoy its award-winning brews.

Also close by is Lesedi Cultural Village, which is not to be missed if you’re interested in immersing yourself in a magnificent and rich cultural experience. Guests are welcome to spend time in the village, take part in tours and presentations and even stay on to enjoy a feast with the locals.

Luxurious accommodation is available, should you wish to extend your stay overnight.

If you’re keen to soak up the outdoors, take a short trip to the Aloe Ridge Game Reserve, where you might be lucky enough to encounter a rare white rhino. The Muldersdrift Animal and Reptile Park Zoo hosts a slightly more eclectic collection of animals, such as pumas, jackals and wolves. The facility conducts regular tours that introduce visitors to these and many more interesting creatures. There is also a tea garden in which to unwind afterwards, making for an ideal family outing.

If you’re still feeling tense after escaping the city, Point Blank Paintball at the Valverde Country Hotel might be the solution. If you’ve never played paintball before, this is the perfect place to start – book, invite a few friends and wear comfortable clothes.
