How to Update Your Details on the RDP Housing Application

Updating your details on the RDP (Reconstruction and Development Programme) housing application is a vital step in keeping your application active and accurate. By ensuring that your information is up to date, you remain eligible for housing opportunities and ensure you receive important notifications regarding your application status.

Why It’s Important to Keep Your RDP Housing Details Updated

Many applicants lose their eligibility or face delays in receiving assistance because their details are outdated. By maintaining accurate and current information, you help ensure that the government can process your application efficiently, and you avoid missing out on housing opportunities. Additionally, updated details allow for seamless communication, ensuring you don’t miss critical notifications regarding your application.

    The RDP Housing Update Process

The RDP housing application is integrated into the broader Housing Subsidy System. If you need to update your personal information, you can do so by visiting the local housing office or customer support centre where you originally applied. You will be required to provide original or certified documents to confirm your identity and any changes in your circumstances.

Key Documents Required for the Update

To ensure your updated details are correctly captured, bring the following documents:

    • South African ID (for you and any dependents)
    • Birth certificates of dependents
    • Marriage certificate (if applicable)
    • Proof of income
    • Divorce or death certificates (if applicable)

These documents are essential to ensure that your details are updated properly and that your application remains valid.

How to Update Your Details In-Person

If you prefer to update your details in person, follow these steps:

    1. Visit the Local Housing Office:
Go to the same office or customer support centre where you originally applied. Housing officials will assist you in updating your details.
    2. Bring the Required Documents:
Make sure you have the necessary documents, including your South African ID, birth certificates of dependents, marriage certificate (if applicable), and any other relevant certificates.
    3. Submit Updated Information:
Present your updated details to the housing officer, who will process the changes. If you are updating marital status, ensure you bring your marriage certificate and certified copies of your ID.
    4. Get Confirmation:
After submitting your details, request confirmation that your application has been updated. Ask about any additional steps or requirements that may apply.

How to Update Your Details Online or via SMS

In addition to in-person updates, the Housing Subsidy System offers other methods for updating or checking your application:

    1. Online Portal: Log into the Housing Subsidy System online portal by entering your ID number to track your status and confirm your details are up-to-date.
    2. SMS Service: Many provinces also offer an SMS service. You can confirm your details by sending your ID number and surname to a designated provincial number. This service provides a quick and convenient way to check your status without visiting the office in person. Example of SMS Service:
To check or update your RDP housing application, send your ID number and surname to the relevant provincial number.

    Municipal-Specific Instructions and Deadlines

It’s important to follow specific instructions for your municipality, as some areas have deadlines and special instructions for updating your details. For example:

    • Polokwane: Residents who applied for RDP housing between 2004 and 2007 must update their details at the Itsoseng Entrepreneurial Centre by February 28, 2026. Missing deadlines may affect the status of your application, so make sure to adhere to local guidelines.

What to Do If You Encounter Issues

Sometimes, the update process may not go as smoothly as expected. If you face difficulties, you have options for escalation:

    • Contact the MEC for Human Settlements in your province for further assistance. They can guide you through the process or help resolve any issues you may encounter.
    • Use the Provincial Housing Hotline: Each province has a dedicated hotline to assist with housing queries. Contact them if you need additional support.

By keeping your details up to date, you ensure that your RDP housing application remains valid and you stay informed about important notifications and eligibility updates.
