Unisa Semester 2 Applications Now Open for 2025
The University of South Africa (Unisa), the largest open distance learning institution on the continent, has officially opened applications and registrations for Semester 2 of the 2025 academic year. Prospective and returning students are urged to take note of the key application and registration deadlines to secure their place in time.
Application Period: Undergraduate and Postgraduate Qualifications
Applications for a select number of undergraduate qualifications, as well as Honours degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas, are currently open.

- Application Closing Date: 9 May 2025
It is important to note that this window applies only to limited qualifications, and students should check the Unisa website to verify if their intended programme is available for Semester 2 intake.
Online Registration: Undergraduate, Honours and Postgraduate Diplomas
Students who have been accepted into their chosen programme, or are continuing with their studies, must register during the specified window:
- Registration Opens: 30 June 2025
- Registration Closes: 29 July 2025
- Final Date for Initial Minimum Payment: 29 July 2025
Only online registrations will be accepted. Unisa has emphasized that no in-person or postal registrations will be processed for Semester 2 modules.

Year Modules Registration
Students enrolling in year-long modules still have until 31 March 2025 to complete their registration. This deadline remains unchanged from the earlier academic calendar.

Understanding the financial challenges many students face, Unisa continues to support those:
- With outstanding historical debt
- Awaiting NSFAS or other bursary funding confirmation
In such cases, provisional registration may be allowed under certain conditions. Students are advised to contact the university’s financial aid or student support office for guidance.
