Gauteng’s Department of e-Government, Research and Development convened a Cybersecurity Summit in Johannesburg on Friday, 9 October 2026, to address threats to government systems, residents’ personal information and digital services. The event, organised in partnership with Microsoft, brought together government leaders, cybersecurity experts and technology stakeholders as South Africa observes Cybersecurity Awareness Month throughout October. The discussions were intended to strengthen cybercrime prevention, incident response and public confidence in government services following a security incident referenced by Gauteng MEC Bonginkosi Dhlamini.
