South Africa Weather Today – Wednesday, 29 April 2026

Johannesburg will see temperatures ranging between 11°C and 19°C today under partly cloudy skies, as a mixed weather pattern settles across South Africa on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The national average temperature sits at 16°C, with cloud cover dominating most provinces while the Western Cape enjoys clear conditions. Light rain is affecting parts of North West, and a sharp overnight drop has brought morning lows of just 3°C to parts of the Free State.

What This Means for Your Day

Morning commuters in the Free State and Northern Cape should prepare for cold starts, with temperatures in some areas dipping into single digits overnight. Johannesburg and Pretoria residents can expect moderate conditions with a light northerly breeze reaching 14 km/h. Those in Mahikeng and surrounding North West areas should carry rain gear, as light showers are expected throughout the day. Coastal residents in Cape Town will enjoy the clearest skies in the country, with comfortable temperatures and light south-easterly winds.

    South Africa Weather Highlights

    • KwaZulu-Natal records the warmest conditions at 21°C in Durban
    • North West and Northern Cape both reach 20°C highs
    • Free State experiences the coldest overnight low at 3°C
    • Light rain activity confined to North West province
    • Western Cape enjoys the only clear skies nationally

    Gauteng

Johannesburg will experience partly cloudy conditions with temperatures between 11°C and 19°C. Winds from the north at 14 km/h will keep conditions comfortable through the afternoon. Humidity remains moderate at 42%, making outdoor activities feasible without discomfort.

    Western Cape

Cape Town stands out with clear skies and temperatures ranging from 13°C to 18°C. South-easterly winds at 8 km/h will provide gentle coastal breezes. The clear conditions make this the most favourable region for outdoor plans today, with humidity at 60% keeping the air fresh.

    KwaZulu-Natal

Durban will see scattered clouds with temperatures between 15°C and 21°C, marking the warmest conditions in the country. South-south-easterly winds at 11 km/h will moderate the coastal warmth. Humidity sits at 45%, providing comfortable conditions along the coast.

    Eastern Cape

Gqeberha will experience broken cloud cover with temperatures between 14°C and 18°C. Westerly winds at 10 km/h will prevail along the coast. Humidity levels at 57% mean conditions remain comfortable for most outdoor activities.

    Free State

Bloemfontein faces a significant temperature range today, from a cold 3°C overnight low to a high of 18°C this afternoon. Broken clouds will persist through the day, with north-easterly winds at 12 km/h. Residents should dress in layers to accommodate the wide temperature swing.

    Limpopo

Polokwane will see broken clouds with temperatures between 14°C and 18°C. North-easterly winds at 22 km/h will be the strongest in the region, with humidity climbing to 82%. The cloud cover and elevated moisture levels may create muggy conditions through the day.

    Mpumalanga

Mbombela will experience overcast conditions with a narrow temperature range of 15°C to 17°C. Light north-north-easterly winds at just 3 km/h mean still air conditions. Humidity reaches 83%, the highest in the country, which may create a heavy, damp feel despite moderate temperatures.

    North West

Mahikeng will receive light rain today, with temperatures between 12°C and 20°C. North-easterly winds at 21 km/h will accompany the showers. Humidity at 52% combined with the rain means wet weather gear is essential for anyone venturing outdoors.

    Northern Cape

Kimberley will see broken clouds with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 20°C. East-north-easterly winds at 13 km/h will blow across the region. The low overnight temperature of 7°C requires warm clothing for early risers, though conditions will warm considerably by midday.

    Weekend Outlook

Johannesburg residents should prepare for unsettled weather on Friday, with light rain expected and temperatures dropping to between 12°C and 17°C. The weekend brings relief, with Saturday clearing to sunny skies and temperatures climbing to 22°C, followed by an even warmer Sunday reaching 24°C under clear conditions. The pattern suggests increasing warmth and stability as the long weekend approaches, making Saturday and Sunday ideal for outdoor plans after Friday’s wet interlude.

    • Carry an umbrella or raincoat if travelling through North West province
    • Mpumalanga and Limpopo’s high humidity may require lighter, breathable clothing despite moderate temperatures
    • Cape Town offers ideal conditions for outdoor activities with clear skies and mild temperatures
    • Drivers in North West should exercise caution on wet roads during periods of light rain
