Opel has officially launched the updated Mokka SUV in the country, unveiling both pricing and refreshed specifications. This follows its initial reveal in Europe late last year. Stellantis South Africa presented the facelifted Mokka at its annual Media Connect event in Johannesburg. This signals a bold evolution in the compact SUV segment.

    Refreshed Exterior with Sleek Finishes

The new Opel Mokka sticks to a two-model line-up. It boasts noticeable exterior updates that align with Opel’s “Bold and Pure” design language. Key enhancements include a high-gloss black Opel Vizor grille and centralised Opel Blitz emblem. This is now a defining feature known as the Opel Compass. The Chrome detailing was removed. Additionally, the front bumper receives a sharper, sportier redesign. At the back, the tailgate is now adorned with a refreshed Mokka badge in a sleek script style.

Replacing the previous Elegance trim, the entry-level Edition model now comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the more dynamic GS Line sports newly designed 18-inch diamond-cut alloys and a striking black roof as standard.

Both versions also benefit from upgraded LED headlights. These now feature integrated magnifying glass technology. They deliver resolution comparable to Opel’s advanced Matrix IntelliLux system.

    Interior Overhaul with High-Tech Touches

Inside, the facelift introduces Opel’s Pure Panel cockpit as a new standard. This setup includes two 10-inch digital displays. One for the instrument cluster, and another for the infotainment system, which now boasts improved performance, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and embedded sat-nav.

Comfort was enhanced, featuring a wireless charging pad, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and power-folding side mirrors. The cabin also embraces USB Type-C connectivity. This is a step in line with Opel’s newer models like the Grandland and upcoming Frontera.

Both trims now feature a newly styled steering wheel with built-in heating, and the center console sports a smart silver finish. Seat finishes vary, with cloth upholstery in the Edition and leather in the GS Line. The GS Line also adds power-adjustable, heated, and massaging front seats.

    Enhanced Safety and Driver Assistance

Opel has improved the Mokka’s safety credentials as well. Parking sensors at both ends now come standard across the range. The GS Line further includes a rearview camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking. This offers extra peace of mind for everyday driving.

    Powertrain Stays the Same

While international markets are receiving hybrid versions and electric upgrades, the South African Mokka retains its familiar 1.2-litre turbocharged PureTech engine. Delivering 96kW and 230Nm of torque, the engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is controlled via a toggle shifter. This proven setup promises a responsive yet economical drive.

    Competitive Pricing and Value

Positioned as Opel’s entry-level SUV beneath the Grandland and upcoming Frontera, the Mokka arrives with competitive pricing and strong value. Both variants come standard with a 5-year/100 000 km warranty and a 3-year/60 000 km service plan.

Here’s what you’ll pay for the facelifted Mokka in the country:

    Stylish, Smart, and Still Punchy

With its striking new design, advanced technology, and practical safety features, the refreshed Opel Mokka offers plenty of appeal for SUV buyers seeking something compact yet full of character. While it keeps the same spirited engine, the Mokka’s upgraded cabin and smarter exterior now give it a firmer stance. This is important in a highly competitive market.

Visit Gauteng Wins Gold at International Tourism Film Festival Africa

      By Nomthandazo Ntisa6 June , 2026

Visit Gauteng has won Gold at the 2026 International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA), with the province’s destination marketing film receiving top honours in the Tourism Video: Tourism Destination Marketing category. The award was announced during the ITFFA ceremony held in Johannesburg on 5 June 2026. While tourism awards may appear symbolic, industry experts say recognition of this nature plays an important role in destination marketing, tourism growth, investor confidence and economic development. For Gauteng, the achievement comes as the province continues efforts to attract more visitors, increase tourism spending and strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
