Kaizer Chiefs Part Ways with Potsane as Transfer Window Reshuffle Continues

Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced the departure of winger Tebogo Potsane. This marks another chapter in their ongoing squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 30-year-old winger joined the Soweto giants from Royal AM in 2023. However, he struggled to cement a consistent spot in the first team. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, Potsane’s time at Naturena was marred by injuries and limited appearances. He made just 19 appearances across two seasons. Sadly, he failed to make a lasting impact in the black and gold jersey.

“As Kaizer Chiefs continue to prepare for the upcoming season, the Club and midfielder Tebogo Potsane have parted ways amicably. We thank him for his contributions and wish him all the best in the future,” the club said in an official statement posted on social media.

Before joining Chiefs, Potsane enjoyed stints at Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, and Royal AM. He built a reputation as a hard-working, attack-minded player. However, his brief tenure with Amakhosi adds players to a growing list who have come and gone. This occurs during a turbulent rebuilding phase at the club.

Chiefs’ Transfer Window Clean-Out Continues

The release of Potsane is seen as part of a broader effort by Chiefs management to clear out fringe players. They aim to bring in fresh, high caliber talent. The Soweto giants are hoping to bounce back from a disappointing campaign and restore their status as title contenders.

More exits are expected in the coming weeks. Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, left-back Happy Mashiane, and midfielder George Matlou are among those reportedly at risk. They might be released before the season kicks off. All three players have struggled to hold down starting roles. Thus, their futures remain uncertain.

A New Era or More of the Same?

While the departure of underperforming players may signal a more ruthless and strategic approach from the Chiefs hierarchy, many fans remain skeptical. This follows several underwhelming seasons. The pressure is mounting for the club to finally deliver on their promises of a proper rebuild and return to glory.

With the transfer window still open and more signings expected, supporters will be watching closely. They want to see if the changes yield a stronger, more competitive squad. Or they fear it’s just another reshuffle with familiar outcomes.
