Chippa United Snap Ex-Pirates Stars Ahead of New Season

Chippa United have wasted no time reinforcing their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. They have snapped up two midfielders with Orlando Pirates ties. This brings much-needed steel and creativity to the heart of the pitch.

Homecoming for Mosele

Goodman “River-River” Mosele has joined the Gqeberha-based club on a season-long loan from Pirates. The move marks a return to familiar ground for the 25-year-old. He hails from Qhaga near King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape. His switch to the Chilli Boys is seen as an opportunity for revival. This comes after limited game time last season in Soweto.

Chippa confirmed Mosele’s signing on their official X (formerly Twitter) account. They expressed pride in welcoming the talented midfielder. The player is known for his relentless work ethic, tactical intelligence, and ability to control the tempo. He will be looking to re-establish himself in the top flight.

Having joined the Buccaneers from Baroka FC in 2021, Mosele’s career has seen flashes of brilliance. Now, with a return to his home province, the dynamic midfielder is eager to leave a lasting impact. This will be under the guidance of head coach Sinethemba Badela.

Strengthening With Seabi

Chippa didn’t stop there. The club also announced the acquisition of former Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates midfielder Sammy Seabi on a permanent deal. Seabi has spent time on loan at various DStv Premiership clubs. He arrives with a wealth of experience and a strong physical presence. Chippa have often lacked this in past campaigns.

Seabi is expected to play a pivotal role in helping Chippa maintain composure in the engine room. Moreover, he will provide leadership in a squad that has often found itself battling relegation. His signing brings versatility and a reliable defensive option for Badela. The team looks to climb the table this season.

Mariko Joins on Loan

Adding further depth, the club has also secured the services of Malian midfielder Abdoulaye S. Mariko. He joins on a season-long loan from Orlando Pirates. Although Mariko is not as well known locally, his arrival indicates Chippa’s intent. They are aiming to build a dynamic midfield core with a blend of youth, energy, and international flair.

Reinforcements Continue

Alongside the midfield acquisitions, Chippa United have added goalkeeper Elson Sithole to the squad. This move bolsters their defensive ranks ahead of a demanding new season. Sithole’s signing is likely aimed at creating healthy competition in the goalkeeping department. It’s an area the club has been keen to solidify after inconsistent performances last season.

A Clear Intent to Compete

With the new signings, Chippa United are sending a strong message. They aim to shed the label of relegation survivors. The club has often hovered around the drop zone in previous seasons. However, these fresh additions suggest a shift in ambition.

Mosele’s return to the Eastern Cape will be closely watched by fans. They remember his rise through the ranks as one of the country’s promising midfielders. For Seabi, the opportunity represents a fresh chapter after several temporary spells elsewhere. Meanwhile, Mariko’s addition shows that the club is open to blending local experience with international prospects.

Fresh Faces, New Hope

As the Chilli Boys prepare for another gruelling campaign in the top tier, the message is clear. Chippa United are rebuilding with purpose. With new faces in midfield and goal, coach Badela now has more tactical options at his disposal. Fans will be hoping this translates to better performances on the pitch and a more comfortable spot on the log.
