    Data from Naamsa reveals the country’s best-selling pickups for the first half of the year, with familiar names leading the charge. Unsurprisingly, the Toyota Hilux has held its ground at the summit of the sales chart.

    The Toyota Hilux remains the undisputed favourite, clocking an impressive 16,526 units sold across its single, Xtra, and double-cab models. Its popularity stretches across every corner of the country, thanks to a reputation for reliability, ruggedness, and strong resale value.

    Right on its heels, the Ford Ranger came in second with 12,398 units moved so far this year. The Ranger’s latest generation continues to impress buyers with its refined design, capable performance, and technological upgrades. It’s also worth noting that it shares a platform with the VW Amarok.

    Reliable Isuzu D-Max Grabs Bronze

    The third most popular bakkie is the ever-dependable Isuzu D-Max, which racked up 9,846 sales between January and June. Known for its solid engineering and workhorse appeal, the D-Max continues to attract buyers looking for value and durability.

    Mahindra and Land Cruiser Prove Their Worth

    Mahindra’s Pik Up has proven to be more than just a budget-friendly option, securing fourth place with 5,079 units sold. Its aggressive pricing and growing local presence have made it a favourite among fleet buyers and entrepreneurs.

    Rounding out the top five is the Toyota Land Cruiser 79, selling 2,897 units. While significantly more expensive than others on this list, its unmatched off-road prowess and reliability in rural terrain have helped maintain a loyal following.

    Strong Showings from Navara, GWM, and Amarok

    The Nissan Navara, produced locally, follows closely with 2,630 units. Its comfort levels and versatile configurations appeal to both commercial and private users.

    The Chinese-made GWM P-Series continues to grow in popularity, claiming the seventh spot with 1,947 sales. Its modern styling and value-for-money proposition are hard to ignore.

    Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Amarok registered 1,688 units, benefitting from its close ties to the Ranger while offering a premium feel.

    Closing out the top ten are two more entries from Chinese manufacturers. The Foton Tunland G7 managed 1,089 sales, thanks to its no-frills work-ready build.
