Light rain is affecting Johannesburg this Saturday, with temperatures ranging between 13°C and 23°C as unsettled conditions spread across several provinces. Gauteng is experiencing wet weather alongside KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, while the Eastern Cape enjoys clear skies and the northern interior remains mostly cloudy. The national average temperature sits at 20°C, with Mpumalanga recording the day’s highest maximum of 30°C.

What This Means for Your Day

Rain gear is essential across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape today. Johannesburg’s light rain and moderate north-westerly winds at 17 km/h will keep conditions cool, so pack a jacket for outdoor activities. Durban faces stronger southerly winds reaching 30 km/h with intermittent showers, making beach plans less favourable. Cape Town’s wet, windy weather calls for indoor alternatives. The northern provinces offer drier conditions but expect cloud cover to dominate, particularly in North West and Mpumalanga.

    Gauteng

Johannesburg is experiencing light rain today with temperatures between 13°C and 23°C. Humidity levels at 72% combined with north-north-westerly winds at 17 km/h create damp conditions throughout the day. Pretoria and the East Rand face similar wet weather, making this an ideal day for indoor activities or ensuring waterproof clothing is on hand for essential errands.

    KwaZulu-Natal

Durban records light rain with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 26°C. Strong southerly winds at 30 km/h will make coastal areas particularly blustery, with humidity at 63% adding to the muggy feel. Pietermaritzburg and coastal regions should prepare for intermittent showers and choppy sea conditions that discourage water sports.

    Western Cape

Cape Town faces light rain and temperatures between 15°C and 17°C. North-westerly winds at 24 km/h combined with 64% humidity create cool, wet conditions. Stellenbosch and the Winelands experience similar weather, with motorists advised to exercise caution on wet roads. The rain provides welcome relief for agricultural areas but disrupts outdoor weekend plans.

    Mpumalanga

Mbombela reaches the nation’s highest temperature of 30°C today, with minimums around 19°C under broken clouds. Light north-north-easterly winds at 3 km/h and 58% humidity create warm, humid conditions across the Lowveld. Nelspruit and surrounding areas remain dry but cloud cover limits sunshine, making it a warm but overcast day.

    Limpopo

Polokwane experiences broken clouds with temperatures between 19°C and 27°C. Northerly winds at 10 km/h and 67% humidity keep conditions mild. The Waterberg and Bushveld regions remain dry, providing favourable conditions for outdoor activities despite the cloud cover blocking direct sunshine.

    North West

Mahikeng sees overcast skies with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 26°C. Strong north-north-easterly winds at 23 km/h and 74% humidity create blustery conditions. Rustenburg and Klerksdorp experience similar cloud cover without rain, though the wind may stir up dust in exposed areas.

    Free State

Bloemfontein starts cool at 11°C, climbing to 22°C under few clouds. Northerly winds at 11 km/h and moderate humidity at 51% provide comfortable conditions. Welkom and Bethlehem enjoy relatively dry weather, making this one of the more settled provinces today with only light cloud interference.

    Northern Cape

Kimberley records the day’s lowest minimum at 10°C, warming to 23°C under few clouds. Light northerly winds at 11 km/h and 57% humidity create pleasant mid-autumn conditions. Upington and Springbok areas remain dry, with clear spells offering comfortable daytime temperatures once the morning chill lifts.

    Eastern Cape

Gqeberha enjoys clear skies and temperatures between 14°C and 20°C, making it the driest major centre today. West-south-westerly winds at 24 km/h and 52% humidity provide fresh coastal conditions. East London and Mthatha share similar clear weather, ideal for outdoor activities without the rain affecting other coastal regions.

    Weekend Outlook

Sunday brings continued rain to Johannesburg, with temperatures dropping to between 15°C and 18°C. The wet pattern persists into early next week, with light rain forecast through Wednesday. Maximum temperatures in Gauteng will hover between 18°C and 23°C, while minimums remain steady around 13°C to 15°C. The Eastern Cape’s clear conditions are expected to hold, but coastal provinces should prepare for extended periods of unsettled weather through the weekend.

    Weather Tips for Today

    • Keep umbrellas and waterproof jackets ready in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape
    • Drive carefully on wet roads, particularly in Cape Town and Durban where winds exceed 20 km/h
    • Layer clothing in the Free State and Northern Cape where morning temperatures start around 10°C to 11°C
    • Secure loose outdoor items in North West and coastal areas experiencing strong winds
    • Take advantage of clear conditions in the Eastern Cape for outdoor plans before weather changes
    • Stay hydrated in Mpumalanga where temperatures reach 30°C despite cloud cover
