Gauteng Unveils Bold New Tourism Platform: The Golden Fairways Route at Africa’s Travel Indaba
A bold new tourism platform where sport, culture, lifestyle, and immersive experiences come together to reimagine Gauteng.
The Gauteng Tourism Authority will today officially unveil the Gauteng Golden Fairways Route at Africa’s Travel Indaba, introducing a bold new tourism platform designed to transform the way travellers experience Gauteng.
The Vision: Beyond the Fairway
Blending the sophistication of golf with culture, lifestyle, township experiences, heritage, food, business tourism, and immersive digital engagement, the Gauteng Golden Fairways Route introduces a connected journey across the province that invites visitors to explore Gauteng in a more engaging, interactive, and meaningful way.
From the beauty of the Vaal River to the vibrant energy of Soweto, iconic golf destinations, lifestyle hotspots, heritage landmarks, and hidden gems, the route has been designed to:
-
Showcase the diversity, creativity, and spirit of Gauteng.
-
Encourage travellers to move through more parts of the province.
-
Invite visitors to discover new experiences and stay longer.
Leadership Insights
Speaking ahead of the launch, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa said the initiative reflects Gauteng’s commitment to building a more inclusive, experience-led tourism economy.
“The Gauteng Golden Fairways Route is about opening Gauteng up in a new and exciting way. It is about connecting people to our communities, our culture, our stories, and our experiences through a platform that brings together tourism, sport, business, and lifestyle. Most importantly, it creates opportunities for local businesses, township economies, young people, creators, and tourism partners to become part of a growing and connected tourism ecosystem,” said Ms. Ramokgopa.
Acting CEO of the Gauteng Tourism Authority, Crezelda Venter, added that the platform has been designed to unlock broader tourism and economic opportunities across the province.
“Importantly, the Gauteng Golden Fairways Route has been designed to encourage visitors to stay longer in Gauteng while driving tourism spend across multiple regions of the province. The initiative also aims to support local businesses and township economies, create opportunities for youth participation and skills development, and position Gauteng as a leading tourism, lifestyle, and business events destination,” said Ms. Venter.
Innovation and Collaboration
The initiative represents a collaborative approach to tourism development, bringing together government, tourism stakeholders, golf clubs, creators, media partners, township enterprises, and private sector collaborators.
The official launch at Africa’s Travel Indaba will provide:
