Trails for Trunks trail run and walk at Hedianga Farm Pretoria on 16 August 2026 for HERD elephants

Trails for Trunks brings Pretoria’s trail running community together at Hedianga Farm in Olympus AH on Sunday, 16 August 2026, for a run and walk timed to celebrate World Elephant Day. Every entry supports the Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development (HERD) Trust, making this one of the most purpose-driven outdoor events on Gauteng’s August calendar and a feel-good way to spend a Sunday morning on the trails.

Trails for Trunks Distances and What’s Included

With four distance options — 2km, 5km, 10km and 15km, each available as a run or a walk — Trails for Trunks welcomes everyone from first-time trail walkers to seasoned athletes. The routes cross Hedianga Farm’s open trails with varying elevation and some technical terrain, so there is a genuine challenge for experienced runners as well as an easy, family-friendly loop for a gentler outing.

Entry Fees and Timing

Entry costs R200 per person across all distances, and children aged 6 and under join free alongside a parent. Registration opens at 06:30 on race day, the race starts at 07:00, late registration runs until 08:00, and the course cut-off is 10:30 — so most participants will be finished, fed and off the farm before midday. Entries are open now on Entry Ninja.

On the Day

Every entry includes a marked route, water tables along the course, a finisher medal and venue parking. The first 250 entrants receive a goodie bag, and organisers Revolution Trails are encouraging costumes, with prizes for the best-dressed elephants on the trail. Dogs are welcome, and snacks, coffee and other refreshments are available at the finish, so there is every reason to linger after crossing the line.

Getting there is easy: Hedianga Farm sits on the corner of Achilles Road and Ajax Avenue in Olympus AH, on Pretoria East’s doorstep, and parking is included in the entry fee. Bring trail shoes, a water bottle and a warm layer for the crisp August morning start.

Why Pretoria Trail Runners Should Diarise Trails for Trunks

Hedianga Farm’s mix of open single-track and technical sections makes it one of Pretoria East’s most enjoyable trail venues in its own right. Pairing that terrain with a clear conservation cause gives Trails for Trunks an edge over a standard weekend park run. Whether you are chasing a personal best on the 15km or bringing the family and the dog for the 2km, this is a well-organised, affordable outing that supports elephant conservation while showing off one of the city’s under-the-radar trail spots.
