The Lion and Safari Park (formerly the Lion Park which was situated in Lanseria, Johannesburg) is located in the Cradle of Humankind and offers a distinctive wildlife and tourism experience.
The park is an eco-tourism destination that primarily offers a sanctuary for a number of important species (not only lion as its name implies) as well as focuses on the regeneration of various species, in particular the endangered Wild Dog, the rare White Lion and Cheetah. Secondary to its conservation practices, the park provides a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with the wildlife of Africa.
The carnivores of Lion and Safari Park include more than 80 lions, as well as leopard, cheetah, caracal, Wild Dog, Spotted Hyena and Black-Backed Jackal. Numerous buck, zebra, wildebeest and giraffe roam freely in a large grazing area, away from the carnivores. In addition to the animals, visitors can also participate in game drives, cheetah encounters, giraffe feedings and enjoy shopping at the Five Dome.
During the game drives, visitors can explore the trails along the banks of the Crocodile River, as well as the forests and valleys of the 400ha game park.
And for those who have worked up an appetite, the Wetlands Bar and Restaurant and the Bull ‘n’ Buck Grill will offer hearty and scrumptious meals.
