Che Argentine Grill grew from an empanada stall at Johannesburg’s food markets into a full Argentine grill house, and is one of only two South African restaurants endorsed by the Argentinian Embassy. Now settled on Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkwood, a short hop from Rosebank on the 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk route, it occupies a spacious, warmly lit dining room and patio.
The kitchen at Che Argentine Grill centres on a wood-fired parrilla turning out thick, properly charred Argentine-style steaks, house chimichurri, blistered empanadas and Malbec-friendly sharing plates. Service is relaxed and the mood convivial, making it a strong choice for a leisurely carnivorous dinner after a day exploring the inner city and northern suburbs.
