Arts on Main is the founding building of the Maboneng Precinct and remains its creative heart: a restored warehouse complex of artist studios, galleries, design shops, workshops and eateries just east of the CBD, on the 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk route. It is best known for Market on Main, the Sunday food-and-design market that fills the courtyards and rooftop with craft stalls, street food, live music and a convivial local-meets-visitor crowd.
Through the week Arts on Main is quieter but still rewarding for browsing galleries and grabbing coffee. As the birthplace of Johannesburg’s inner-city creative renaissance, it is an essential, walkable Maboneng stop for anyone following the route. Confirm current Sunday market hours before visiting, as schedules can shift with the season.
